What You Will Do :
We are currently searching for a Chemist to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services for the Chemistry and Synthesis Center (CSC) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) Division of Intramural Research (DIR). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Rockville, MD.

• Lead research projects in synthetic chemistry.
• Interact with chemists within CSC in the preparation and testing of synthesized probes.
• Perform synthesis and/or labeling of target specific molecules for imaging.
• Perform the total syntheses of target compounds and analytical validation and testing of compositions; produce compositions at desired scales and purities. Perform repeat and partial syntheses as necessary.
• Develop and present plans for novel syntheses and approaches to new compounds.
• Produce compositions at desired scales and purities.
• Perform analytical validation and testing of compositions.
• Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and databases.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret data; prepare summaries and reports.
• Make presentations of results and findings both inside and outside CSC.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts inside and outside of CSC.
• Perform analytical techniques; learn new skills as necessary.
• Develop and present plans for novel syntheses and approaches to new compounds.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new ideas and developments in the field.
• Guide and train junior staff members.

What You Will Need :

• Ph.D. Degree
• At least 4 years of synthetic organic chemistry experience.
• Total synthesis of complex natural products or fluorogenic substrates should be demonstrated by scientific publications.
