The Lead Reading/Language Arts Teacher oversees the implementation of the RLA curriculum and teaches a double block of RLA to grades 7-8. The double blocks are not always back to back on the schedule. The Lead RLA Teacher works closely with others, including teaching fellows, in curricular and cross-curricular activities to foster a love of learning and responsibility to the broader community. The Lead RLA Teacher actively participates in the extended day program that promotes the growth of the whole person.Responsibilities: 1. Effectively manage middle school RLA classrooms by setting high expectations and creating relevant, standards-based lessons2. Teach utilizing the existing curriculum (Savvas, a Pearson Ed. spinoff) with special attention to the content and methods appropriate to the students’ developmental levels, social/cultural and religious backgrounds3. Moderate, lead, or coach at least one, seasonal extracurricular activity per year4. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the administration, whole faculty, content teachers, and grade-level teams to discuss individual student progress and further develop the curriculum5. Serve as proctor of recess, lunch, or other duties as assigned6. Serve as a student advisor to a small group of students7. Use current instructional technologies effectively
