Nationwide Children's Hospital is Hiring an Occupational Health Physician Near Columbus, OH

The Occupational Health Physician will provide occupational health services to the employees of Nationwide Children’s Hospital which will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses and work to enhance the health of employees through preventive medicine, clinical care, disability management, research and education. Responsibilities

• Oversees the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of occupational illnesses and/or injury for all NCH staff.• Provide routine occupational injury/illness care, follow-up and referral. Provide case management support for worker’s compensation complex and long-term claims.• Provide development and review of pre-hire testing including pre-employment (DOT and non-DOT) physicals, return-to-work, fitness-for-duty, drug/nicotine testing for various occupations.• Provide development and oversight for emergency medical services, medical surveillance program, disability management claims, injury claims and any other medical programs.• Collaborates with Chief of Epidemiology, Employee Health manager and hospital administrators in establishing and implementing health and safety related policies, procedures and guidelines for all employees.• Assist with the development of clinical protocols and care paths for common occupational health issues (i.e. vaccine programs, injury prevention, etc.).• Functions as the Medical Review Officer (MRO) for the drug free workplace program.• Evaluates and approves staff for return to work after illness or injury or may act as a consultant to identify workplace health hazards.• Serves as a consultant for Human Resources and management on employee health issues• Provides assistance and consultation on the employee safety program, hazardous drug information, random testing of highly susceptible areas.• Serves as Occupational Health subject matter expert providing medical expertise as requested.• May provide episodic care of minor non- occupational illness/injury.• Performs administrative duties relative to Occupational Health responsibilities.• Responsible in conjunction with Employee Health Services manager for strategic planning related to department scope, services, procedures and performance improvement.• Collaborates with Employee Wellness and others to develop and implement programs to enhance and improve the state of health and wellness for NCH staff.• Serves on the Employee Safety Committee, Infection Control and other hospital committees as required.• Interfaces with other NCH physicians as necessary.

Qualifications

Education: MD or DO from an accredited schoolLicensure: Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.Certifications:• Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine.• Certification, as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) in order to review/certify drug test results, and independent medical and disability evaluator.• Certification required in order to perform commercial motor vehicle driver’s examinations.Skills:• Wide array of knowledge concerning multiple regulatory agency requirements including ADA, OSHA, Workers’ Compensation, JCAHO, CDC, DOT, FAA.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills• Critical thinking, ability to effectively analyze problems and develop well-reasoned solutions; recognize and validate assumptions, collect information and draw meaningful inferences.Experience:• Five to seven years of experience with a comprehensive occupational medicine program, including workers’ compensation, medical surveillance, pre-placement and specialty screenings, infectious disease, toxicology and industrial hygiene in a medical center-based setting. • Possesses knowledge in current concepts in occupational medicine.The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
