National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives is Hiring a Communications Director Near Washington, DC

The National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) is a 501(c)(6) specialized bar association of more than 2,500 attorneys and advocates who represent Social Security disability claimants throughout the adjudicative process. Since 1979, NOSSCR has been providing continuing legal education, conferences, and public policy advocacy on behalf of its members and the people with disabilities they represent. NOSSCR has recently moved to a new home office in downtown Washington, DC.

NOSSCR’s mission is to advocate for improvements in Social Security disability programs and to ensure that individuals with disabilities applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits have access to highly qualified representation and receive fair decisions.

The Communications Director will promote NOSSCR services and events, manage social media, organize consistent member communications, and provide public relations expertise. This person must have excellent writing skills and the ability learn the nuances of disability advocacy communication.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with membership, government relations, and operations NOSSCR teams to further goals and objectives.
  • Gathers the materials and research necessary to understand the project and competition in the area such as literature or previous marketing campaigns; analyzes these materials to determine the most effective communications technique.
  • Based on assessment, drafts and proposes communications campaigns, which may include social and online media.
  • Creates and coordinates multimedia packages.
  • Evaluates success of campaigns when completed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent communications design skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or related field.
  • Four to six years of related experience writing and editing projects; portfolio of relevant previous projects highly preferred.
  • Previous media or association experience preferred.
