Job Title: Purchasing Assistant
Dept: Maintenance, Operations, and Repairs
Basic Objective:
To procure raw materials, services, and major packaging at the lowest possible cost consistent with accepted standards of quality and service within established time frames.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain supplier relationships for current and potential suppliers.
2. Establish proper communication with our plants and our suppliers on matters pertaining to
schedules and delivery requirements.
3. Provide follow-up for delivery of all secondary packaging materials.
4. Prepare and review supplier quotes. Negotiates with supplier for cost, terms, and delivery.
5. Negotiates between vendors and plants on problems incurred with products and services.
6. Requests SDS on all hazardous chemicals used in all plants.
7. Assists in the development and thereafter maintain a computerized system to automatically
update all packaging material requirements when adjustments are made to the pack plan.
8. Works with in-house mechanics in procuring necessary parts and materials for repairs and preventative maintenance.
Organizational Relationship:This position reports to the Purchasing Manager.
Position Specification:
Preferred not Required: BS Degree in Business or equivalent, plus five years of purchasing experience.
Must be well organized and be able to deal with all types of people.
Must have general mechanical knowledge of parts, tools and machinery and be somewheat mechanically inclined.
