National Disease Research Interchange is Hiring a Remote Specialist, Tissue Source Site

The Tissue Source Site Management area is responsible for overseeing all activities related to the management of NDRI’s Tissue Source Sites (TSS, which include organ procurement organizations, tissue banks, eye banks, hospitals, tissue processors, transplant centers, tissue recovery professionals, recovery sites and other sources of human tissue, as needed). Tissue Source Site Management is inclusive of NDRI’s Private Donor Program which includes independently contracted recovery professionals and research donors consented by NDRI or a sponsoring program

Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Director, Tissue Source Site (TSS) Management, the TSS Specialist will work closely with the TSS Management managers and director to manage NDRI’s relationships with its recovery partners. He/she will be responsible for maintaining records related to TSS contacts and capabilities and facilitating real-time TSS follow-up regarding biospecimen recovery. He/she will participate in regular teleconferences, on-site meetings, and project teams.

He/she will work with the TSS Management managers and director to facilitate donation of organs and tissues for research from postmortem donors as a part of NDRI’s Private Donor Program team. He/she will manage donor inquiries, consenting, registration, donation planning and coordination of eligible Private Donors.

A requirement of the position is to be a part of the Private Donor On-call rotating schedule to provide assistance to NDRI’s Fulfillment team in the execution of donation plans. On-call hours are between 5:00 PM and 8:30 AM, Monday evening through Friday morning and between 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Friday evening though Monday morning.

Position will require up to 5% travel time per year.

Tissue Source Site Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing day to day interactions with recovery partners (TSS), communicating needs of NDRI projects and researchers in real-time to TSS liaison and contacting sites as required to determine feasibility of new projects and protocols or provide recovery feedback.
  • Maintain TSS contacts in the TSS module of Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Maintain accurate records of TSS capabilities in the TSS module of NDRI’s procurement software, Rhythm.
  • Regularly monitor progress/performance of all of NDRI’s recovery partners. Provide monthly summaries to TSS Management Managers on recovery partner performance and potential issues.
  • Participate in regular TSS meetings to review performance, problems, demand and other needs.
  • Work with Fulfillment staff as needed in the coordination of recovered biospecimens by TSS to appropriate researchers.

Private Donor Program Responsibilities

  • Maintain Private Donor (PD) contacts and donation plans in the Private Donor module of Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Maintain PD recovery specialist contacts and details in the Private Donor module of Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Approach donor or donor family next-of-kin to obtain authorization for research donation, working with PD team to ensure best practices and compliance of all informed decision-making documents for authorization/consent.
  • Assist in coordinating all activities associated with PD tissue recovery, including communicating directly with hospitals, recovery specialists, funeral homes and NDRI staff to facilitate timely recovery in compliance with family’s wishes.
  • Adhere to PD SOPs and curriculum guidance for PD recoveries.
  • Assist in managing interactions with PD recovery specialists, including follow-up on recovery feedback.
  • Regularly monitor progress/performance of NDRI’s PD Program. Provide monthly summaries to TSS Management Managers on PD performance and potential issues.
  • Work with NDRI Logistics Management to ensure adequate inventory of supplies are available to PD recovery sites and specialists.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. NDRI recognizes that many employees need flexibility in work schedules in order to meet childcare and other needs. Core hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and all employees should be at work during those hours. Within the structure of the core hours, you may schedule your 7.5-hour workday as you choose if the nature of your job permits such flexibility, and your supervisor approves your schedule. This position is approved to work remotely 2, 7.5-hour workday’s a week.

Additionally, this position requires employee to be part of a Private Donor Administrator On-Call group with operates on a rotating schedule.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences. Additional work experience in areas of vendor management, project management, or general management preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with hospitals, other organ procurement organizations or tissue banks preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Project, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
  • Strong understanding of current biomedical research techniques and human anatomy.
  • Can read and understand scientific publications, medical terminology, and patient charts.
