Description

JOB TITLE: Registered Behavior Technician 

DEPARTMENT: Behavioral Services Department 

REPORTS TO: Director of Behavioral Services (BCBA) and Director of Community Living 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt 

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

Under the collaborative supervision of the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and Director of Community Living, a Registered Behavior Technician is a paraprofessional that provides direct care and counseling to individuals with autism, developmental delay or other behavioral challenges. RBTs will be responsible for training and supporting other staff members, implementing behavior plans and providing assistance with functional behavior assessments under the guidance of the BCBA and/or Director of Behavioral Services. RBTs work directly with individuals in various settings, including but not limited to NCIA residential and respite homes, doctor’s offices, day program and other community locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Manages and implements MANDT techniques in response to challenging behaviors as outlined in individualized behavior plans. 

  1. Follows and implements behavior support plans to facilitate consistent implementation and monitor outcomes appropriately as developed by the BCBA and/or Director of Behavioral Services. 

  1. Models/supports staff to work with NCIA individuals on their daily tasks and with the development of life and social skills. 

  1. Inputs valid behavior data and accurate clinical documentation into agency database.

  1. Communicates progress updates, barriers, etc. on treatment goals to BCBA and/or Director of Behavioral Services as requested. 

  1. Assists the BCBA with the implementation of behavioral assessments, consultations, and creation of behavior plans. 

  1. Collaborates with other members of their assigned individual’s treatment team including but not limited to the attendance of Person-Centered Plan meetings and other related trainings. 

  1. Possesses a strong understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques. 

  1. Displays excellent communication and people skills, as well as patience, creativity, and attention to detail. 

  1. Maintains recertification requirements and Registered Behavior Technician credentials by attending supervision with BCBA. 

  1. Follows all policies and procedures of NCIA as outlined. 

  1. Consults with Behavior Specialist and BCBA for the purposes of Behavior Plan development and review, as well as to provide comprehensive provision of services to individual(s). 

  1. Communicates openly with BRS House Manager, Behavior Specialist, BCBA and other professionals.

  1. Communicates medical, behavioral, and other concerns related to the individual(s) to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. 

  1. Completes daily progress notes, reports, and other documents as designated. 

  1. Uses approved crisis intervention techniques in emergency situations when individual(s) are in danger of injuring themselves or others.

  1. Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with NCIA staff and individuals. 

  1. Contributes to a work and home atmosphere which is positive, enthusiastic, responsible, and courteous. 

  1. Uses technology for the completion of specified job duties. 

  1. Attends work regularly according to assigned schedule and accordance with Agency policy. 

  1. Adheres to the Code of Ethics for Registered Behavior Technicians.

  1. Attends and participates in in-service training, staff meetings and other activities to facilitate professional development.

  1. Acts as a positive role model for individual(s) and NCIA staff. 

  1. Performs other duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma and five years related experience and/or training in behavioral health/developmental disabilities field or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2 years’ experience.

  • Experience in applied behavior analysis (ABA) and/or with clients with autism or developmental disabilities

  • At least one year of clinical experience working in applied settings with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities with behavioral challenges.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents and a variety of manuals, such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to write routine reports, documents and correspondence following prescribed formats.

  • Ability to speak effectively and present information to others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to work with data utilizing defined but different processes.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Registered Behavior Technician Certification.

  • Certified Medical Technician (CMT) or able to pass MTTP and obtain credentials as a CMT.

  • MANDT certification or able to pass MANDT certification course.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communication, time management, problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Ability to operate equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

  • Ability to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic job-related equipment.

  • Ability to work with constant interruptions and maintain a calm and positive demeanor.

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.

  • Ability to be flexible; communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; set priorities; work as part of a team.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid non-provisional driver’s license from state of residence and acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by Agency’s insurance carrier and by Agency policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Walking significant distances.

  • Running occasionally.

  • Standing for a significant amount of time, up to two hours occasionally.

  • Lifting or pushing 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.

  • Frequent reaching, stooping, grasping, balancing, kneeling, and crouching.

  • Ability to stay awake and attentive throughout entire shift.

  • Sufficient visual acuity to observe general surroundings and activities of clients.

  • Sufficient hearing ability to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels.

  • Safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized protective equipment provided by the agency.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Residential home environment.

  • Both indoor and outdoor environments, with potential exposure to weather elements, such as rain, wind, or snow.

  • May be required to be outside during client crisis management episodes, as well as during periods of specific individual contact.

  • Work environment may include video and/or audio monitoring.

  • Moderate noise level.
