We are searching for an experienced Visiting Instructor - Art Therapy at our Nalanda Campus facility.

Position Title: Visiting Instructor TAT
Department/Program: MTC Art Therapy 12070
Work Location Authorization: 100% On-Site
Campus Location: Nalanda Campus
Reports to: TAT Chair
FLSA Classification: Exempt/Salaried
FTE: 100% (40 hrs/week)
Compensation: Half-time (12 credits) $21,000 / Three-quarter time (18 credits) $31,500 Full-time (24 credits) $42,000

Job Summary
The Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP) seeks to fill full or part-time visiting instructor positions in the Transpersonal Art Therapy concentration beginning July 1, 2023. The university and department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. The job includes administrative duties for the TAT concentration and the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP), including but not limited to recruitment, admissions workshop, networking within the field of professional counseling, student learning outcomes assessment, and active engagement in the delivery of the TAT curriculum.
Qualified applicants must be able to demonstrate consistent success in negotiating the pedagogical, clinical, and collaborative responsibilities of a faculty appointment within the degree program and within the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP).
Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits (1 FTE), 18 credits (.75 FTE) or 12 credits (.5 FTE) each academic year, in the residential TAT concentration.
  • 100% On-Site
  • Participate in programmatic administrative duties
  • Hold weekly office hours to meet with students and prospective students
  • Collaborate with concentration and GSCP faculty in curriculum development and assessment
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the programs
  • Participation in admissions recruitment and marketing efforts; support and retention of students (including interviewing prospective students), marketing, and other program tasks
  • Attend University-wide faculty meetings
  • Participation in the Community Art Studio as determined by the concentration chair
  • Pursue professional development in the art therapy field (trainings, research, creative works, writing, presentations) and as a professional counselor
  • Engage in continuing development in contemplative practice and education and diversity and sustainability awareness
  • Understand and adhere to the policies, procedures, and protocols outlined in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks
  • Other duties as assigned


What We Require

  • EITHER a doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision, Counseling, Psychology, or a related area of mental health (e.g., Counseling Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy) or related to the course specialization;
OR these three requirements:
1) Master's degree in Counseling or a related field;
2) Licensed or eligible for licensure at the Professional Counselor or equivalent level; and
3) Equivalent of two years’ full-time employment in a clinical capacity in a mental health related setting (private practice, agency, or related setting) in the last five years.
  • Must be able to teach weekly in person, on campus in Boulder,
  • Significant teaching experience including lecture, facilitating discussion, and experiential exercises.
  • Ability to demonstrate course content area knowledge and understanding of its application in counseling.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and assertive communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in recognizing and addressing issues related to privilege, oppression, diversity and inclusivity in higher education communities, especially in regards to curriculum content and classroom facilitation.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

What We’d Like You to Have

  • Familiarity with art therapy, transpersonal or mindfulness approaches, and/or contemplative education.
  • Experience in training counselors at the graduate level.
  • Recent and/or current experience in the counseling field.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
Faculty members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:

  • Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
  • Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
  • Standing or sitting for hours at a time.
  • Moving around campus for classes and meetings

A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week. Employees who work 20 – 29 hours each week are eligible for only the employer-paid short-term & long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance & accidental death and dismemberment, and the retirement plan, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.
Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.
All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
