A Nardin Academy Montessori Elementary Assistant Teacher is dedicated to the mission of the Academy, committed to the study of Montessori pedagogy, motivated to work collaboratively, and committed to self-reflective practice and professional development.

They will assist in a 6-9 environment, and be responsible to themselves and the team; to be self-motivated and open to instruction, and able to manage time effectively while fulfilling curriculum; create a positive learning environment in the classroom where children can develop a lifelong love for learning; and the desire to nurture and provide personal attention to children ages 6 years – 9 years and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the Lead Teachers as directed in matters regarding classroom, curriculum and students
• Assist with documentation of daily needs, observations, and developmental milestones
• Help maintain attendance and other written or electronic records
• Assist in drop off and pick up procedures at arrival and dismissal times as assigned
• Supervise the class at lunch and/or recess period and other times when the teacher is out of the room
• Support classroom events and trips including, but not limited to: day trips, camping trips, dinner meetings, presentations, conferences, and performances
• Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment and materials
• Observe student behaviors and steps in when appropriate, communicating student progress or concerns with the Lead Teachers
• Maintain order and manage the class in a subtle and non-disruptive manner during lessons; work with the Lead Teachers to preserve and protect lessons
• Act in a way that exemplifies and models the school’s expectations of grace and courtesy
• Assist in students’ development of independence
• Establishes a professional relationship with parents
• Engages in self-reflection and annual development of a growth and renewal plan based on the Characteristics of Professional Excellence
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development activities.
• Assist in maintaining routines
• Provide a safe and secure environment. Be familiar with emergency procedures

Qualifications

• Montessori experience or elementary education is preferable to maintain an optimal classroom environment for children’s safety and development.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• AMS/AMI certification, (Primary or Early Childhood)
• First Aid/CPR training or willing to obtain

Working Conditions

The work environment is a Montessori classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.

Salary

$32,000 - $34,000 per year
