Job Responsibilities:
Provides support to the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) – Rocky Mountain Region’s (RMR). The Electrical Engineering Technician will be responsible to performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project, selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work, reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others in the Cody Field Office. From general guidelines and specifications, the technician develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design.
The Cody Electrical Engineering Technician will execute the following actions:
Outline objectives, requirements, and design approaches and review completed work for technical adequacy.
Develop and draft electrical wiring and schematic diagrams.
Review existing wiring installations to correct existing drawings or create new drawings.
Work with Meter & Relay Technicians to check new wiring installations and perform relay commissioning.
Program meters, relays, and control devices.
Design Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and create design schematics.
Construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapt standard equipment.
Work with Electricians in testing and commissioning substation equipment.
Work with electricians in troubleshooting problems and/or equipment malfunctions.
Work with engineering creating specifications for purchasing electrical equipment.
Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., process data, identify errors or inconsistencies, select methods of data presentation.
Other electrical projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Six or more years of electrical experience.
Bachelor’s degree in associated field (i.e. Electrical Engineering).
Desired Qualifications:
Two or more years of basic drafting experience.
Experience using AutoCAD and electronic drafting services using computer-aided engineering techniques.
Specialized knowledge of WAPA systems, equipment, procedures, and operations is highly desired.
