POSITION: Welding Teacher

SUMMARY:
To provide students with quality standards-based instruction in the area of Welding; assess and encourage student progress; manage an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement; promote academic, social, and citizenship development through leadership and classroom instruction and successful integration of program assigned Career & Technical Student Organization (SkillsUSA).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare for assigned classes
  • Facilitate/coordinate a rigorous Welding curriculum with career-related instruction; assess and provide for differentiation to ensure student progress while managing the learning environment
  • Know the different types of welding – SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and OFC.
  • Design lessons with an appropriate level of difficulty that provide content in a logical and sequential manner
  • Model enthusiasm for Welding and demonstrate current innovations in the industry, including competition within the global economy
  • Provide effective leadership and guidance as an advisor of SkillsUSA.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
  • Integrate curriculum for Welding career pathways courses
  • Analyze and interpret student data to develop and modify instructional activities
  • Establish and maintain industry and post-secondary connections to promote/encourage students’ participation in continuing education opportunities – actively involved in industry through the Technical Advisory Committee
  • Encourage/provide experiences to students in the program for the purpose of leadership development, advanced technical skills attainment, workforce readiness preparation, and college career readiness
  • Manage and maintain the program’s assigned equipment
  • Implement the Idaho Core Standards, as well as the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives, in lesson plans, classroom instruction, unit planning, and assessments
  • Devise written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking as well as the reproduction of facts, and use them to evaluate student progress regularly
  • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Prepare students academically for district, state, and federal testing
  • Encourage students to strive to meet their highest potential
  • Establish and communicate classroom rules and encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings
  • Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with special education teachers as needed
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, curriculum, objectives, and methods
  • Provide needed and requested information on a timely basis
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
  • Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents
  • Input data in a timely fashion
  • Maintain professional development competence through ongoing educational and professional development training, as required for certification as well as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
  • Adhere to state and district level regulations and policies, including but not limited to The Code of Ethics for Idaho Professional Educators adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules
  • Seek assistance should emergencies arise
  • Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
:

  • Have an endorsement in Welding or meet the qualifications for a Limited Occupational Specialist Certificate endorsement in Welding.
  • If qualified for a Limited Occupational Specialist Certificate, complete certification within three years as Idaho CTE requires.
  • Five years of work experience within the industry is preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding instructional practice and discipline.

Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to complete varied assignments within established time frame effectively.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to conduct basic math functions and manipulate formulas in spreadsheets as needed.

REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
