Position Summary

The Admissions clerks greet patients, inquire about medical aliments, confirm prescheduled procedures, gathers/interviews incoming patients prior to admission, collects insurance, emergency information, and other data required to bring the patient into the hospital system.

Position Duties (Not all Inclusive)

• Admit patients in a timely manner
• Ensures verification and pre-certification are done in a timely manner
• Obtain necessary signatures of consent for treatment and insurance forms and any other applicable forms, to include proper identification.
• Assign room per policy and explain hospital policy.
• Assist all patients in understanding his/her insurance benefits if such information is available. Refers all uninsured patients to Credit Counselors.
• Check for accuracy and current information for each patient admitted to include gathering/re-verifying all personal information including emergency notification numbers and insurance information.
• Collect monies on accounts at the time of service and collects deductibles and coinsurance
• Keys all applicable credit notes and any other documentation notes timely.
• Previous admits are to be keyed on every admission (inpatient, outpatient, Emergency Room and Day Surgery).
• Inputs patient information via hospital information system (HIS) accurately and timely.
• Prepare patient identification arm bands and places band on patient.
• Consistently provides accurate information and timely, courteous assistance to the Cashiers, Collectors and other appropriate Hospital personnel regarding patient account charges and billing issues and related matters.
• Consistently responds to request from insurance companies, Medicare and financial agency representatives for patient account charges, DRG, and other related information in a timely manner

Qualifications

• Required: Ability to Read, Write, and Communicate Effectively in English
• Preferred: Previous hospital admitting/registration experience
• Required: Clerical/PC Administrative Skills
