POSITION SUMMARY

About the Position

The Vice President, Partnerships and Community, drives the strategic direction, development and execution of all partnerships, community, identity programs and external affairs and projects of the association. The Vice President, Partnerships and Community, will build and oversee key initiatives related to the mission, vision and values of the NAACP. These include but are not limited to partnerships, leadership programs, identity-based programs, and special projects. 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

Management, Leadership & Fundraising

  • Lead, develop and inspire the Partnerships and Community Team;
  • Set goals and expectations for direct reports;
  • Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to achieve desired outcomes;
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of Partner programs; 
  • Provide regular reports and analysis to senior management;
  • In consultation with the Development Team, create written proposals, concept papers, fundraising plans, and the other materials needed to creatively deepen prospect engagement for securing gifts; and
  • Create and implement annual and multi-year strategies to maximize monthly sustainer growth from current and future partners.

Partnerships

  • Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with a broad base of stakeholders, coalition partners including civic engagement, Advocacy, DEI, Fraternal, Religious and military organizations; 
  • Develop strategic and operational plans to engage in intersectional civil rights issues led by organizational partners with executive, committee and national board buy-in;
  • Collaborate with National Staff (Strategy, Development, Field and Membership, Marketing and Communication, etc.) on partnership strategy, execution, recruitment and retention;
  • Gather feedback from partners to shape KPIs and enhance partner experiences;
  • Work in close partnership with the Manager, Partnerships to liaise with stakeholders;
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new partners that align with the organization's mission and strategic goals; 
  • Establish criteria for a healthy partner ecosystem;
  • Further cultivate and lead partner organizations, defining the partnership models and ensuring ongoing buy-in and collaboration to maximize collective impact; and 
  • Steward partners to other programs and opportunities with the NAACP.

Leadership Programs

  • Oversee and fully execute the NextGen leadership program to define the role of a social justice leader;
  • Build a leadership development strategy including current, modern learning experiences, coaching, mentoring training professional development, special projects, and assessments;
  • Work in close partnership with the Manager, Leadership Initiatives to develop curriculum and implement the NextGen program, annually;
  • Manage the Amos C. Brown Fellowship Program and other programs as needed; and
  • Work closely with key internal and external partners, to identify and recommend funding opportunities that leverage the Association’s brand for maximum impact in developing leaders.

Community and Identity-Based Programs

  • Design and steward learning opportunities for the Association around intersectional equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • Serve as a primary thought leader and resource for diversity, equity, and inclusion, strengthening equity-centered strategies, policies, and practices;
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the Association’s affinity groups including, but not limited to, Women in NAACP (WIN), the Equity Alliance, Religious Affairs Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee; 
  • Leverage relationships with partner organizations to focus on the intersections of affinity identities and race; and
  • Perform other duties, which may be assigned by the Senior Vice President, Executive Office or other designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in the area of non-profit/association management, fundraising, external affairs, civic engagement, field organizing, and partnership cultivation;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in staff, National Board, volunteer committee and contractor coordination and management; 
  • Ability to forge strong relationships with strategic partners;
  • Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve goals;
  • Experience with state, national civic engagement and DEI issues;
  • Experience developing a strategy for partner cultivation, engagement and retention;
  • Current National level partnership and external affairs relationships and experience;
  • Maintain a donor and partner-focused demeanor at all times; 
  • Ability to build rapport and provide assistance to high-profile external constituents as well as internal staff;
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets;
  • Meticulous attention to details and superior organizational skills;
  • Superior written and persuasive oral communication skills;
  • Proven track record of creating presentations, proposals and public speaking; 
  • Outstanding project management experience with the ability to manage complex and fast-changing program elements and prioritize effectively in response;
  • High attention to detail, adherence to deadlines/timelines and ability to motivate others related to timelines;
  • Adept at contract negotiation with thorough knowledge of data agreements, contact sharing information, and managing deliverables;
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as the ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
  • Experience managing multiple events outside of conventions, including board meetings, trainings, special events, etc.;
  • Flexibility and ability to overcome indecisiveness and ambiguity to deliver results; 
  • Ability to prioritize and balance numerous tasks with accuracy and speed and maintain composure under pressure; and
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the use of software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to learn systems/technology used at the NAACP, including Adobe, and Salesforce
