Munson is a multicultural arts center with three main divisions: Museum of Art, School of Art and Performing Arts. Together, the programs of the three divisions make Munson the chief provider of cultural resources in the region. The Museum of Art is renowned for its art collection and Phillip Johnson-designed building. The School of Art offers the nationally accredited Pratt Munson foundation program in its affiliation with Pratt Institute and a community arts education program offering art classes and workshops. The Performing Arts division offers a wide-ranging, year-round programming of artistically excellent and diverse performing arts and cinema presentations, as well as extensive educational activities.
Pratt Munson College of Art and Design is an NASAD accredited foundation college art program, created through an affiliation between Munson, Utica, NY, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Students do their first two foundation years of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at here at our campus and then matriculate to the Brooklyn campus for completion. The campus houses approximately 170 students majoring in Fine Arts, Communications Design, Photography, and Art and Design Education.
Munson is located in the heart of New York State, foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and centrally located with easy travel to Cooperstown, Albany, Syracuse and a few hours from Boston, NYC, Lake Placid, and Montreal.

Munson is a nationally prominent fine arts center serving diverse audiences through a renowned Museum of Art, the Pratt Munson College of Art and Design, a live performing arts season, and year-round community arts classes. The Institute was founded in 1919 and annually hosts some 600 events where patrons enjoy exhibitions, performances, art classes, and family-oriented activities.
The Museum of Art is one of the nation’s most significant mid-sized art museums, with a top collection of American art. Munson offers more than 100 community art classes and workshops throughout the year, taught by working artists in studios shared by Pratt Munson College of Art and Design, a Munson program that offers students the option of fulfilling their first two years of a BFA in Utica before transitioning to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn to complete their degree. Position Overview
Pratt Munson College of Art and Design is currently accepting applications for a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor. This position is a great opportunity for a positive and energetic mental health professional to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment providing mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach programming to our student population, helping them to meet the challenges they face and find paths for success, personally and academically.
Applicants must be skilled in working with a wide variety of mental health issues in individuals, couples, and group formats, be a welcoming and approachable creative professional that enjoys engaging students about mental health issues, retention, and success in a college population.
The Mental Health Counselor will work with the Student Life staff, faculty and resident assistants to provide guidance, counseling and support to Pratt Munson students. This is a full time, 10-month position that requires evening, night and weekend crisis response.
Responsibilities
Review and evaluate counseling needs of students and formulate recommendations as appropriate; work with and assist students having a broad range of skills, motivation, academic and career goals; provide personal and group counseling, support and crisis emergency services, suicidal and self-harm assessment. Coordinate and correspond with students’ previous provides and parents/guardians as needed.
Create or revise all forms for the Counseling Office, including intake paperwork and releases of information.
Work directly with the Health Office at Pratt Munson and the Health Services department at Pratt Institute to obtain vaccination records and other related health documentation as needed. Utilize and monitor the Docuware system to track records.
Create or revise note-taking systems for the Counseling Office and maintain up-to-date records.
Provide educational outreach and educational programs to students looking for information or help relating to issues including but not limited to: anxiety, stress management, adjustment issues, identity and crisis situations.
Provide crisis intervention on an individual and campus-wide basis as needed. Postvention services may include but are not limited to: grief, bereavement and trauma.
Assist the Student Life Director and Residence Life Coordinator with RA training in areas of college student mental health and other topics.
Assist with Orientation programming related to college student adjustment issues or other topics.
Attend, assist and engage in Pratt Munson events including but not limited to: Accepted Student Reception, Open House, and Commencement.
Serve as a resource to staff, faculty, school administration and RA staff in areas relating to college student mental health and wellbeing.
Provide liaison and referral services between students, faculty, administration and community agencies. Make appropriate referrals.
Develop and present workshops and presentations to campus leadership groups (faculty/staff) on mental health issues faced by college students in order for those student leaders and professionals to be able to effectively recognize and intervene with students who are struggling.
Develop Counseling Office policies and procedures.
Develop institutional policies and procedures related to the safety and wellbeing of the students across campus.
Facilitate and maintain personal care closet and related budget.
Manage routine administrative tasks for the Counseling Office.
Participate in staff and faculty meetings and serve on appropriate committees.
May serve on Munson committees as required.
Perform other duties as required/assigned.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in counselling, clinical psychology, counseling in higher education or social work required.
One to three years of professional experience required; experience in a college counseling environment preferred.
Applicants must possess NYS licensure or be licensed in another state and be license-eligible in NYS as a professional counselor or social worker (license must be granted within 12 months of employment).
Excellent communication skills and polished and professional interpersonal skills to interact with Pratt Munson students, staff and faculty.
Effective organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and follow through on all assignments with minimal direction.
Successful demonstration of critical thinking, consensus building and problem-solving skills.
Ability to gather information, sort, draft and provide analysis for budgetary and purchasing projects.
Ability to read budget reports and accurately prepare fiscal documents and forms.

Salary Range $ 55,341 - $65,000
