FULL-TIME OPPORTUNITY FOR AN EXPERIENCED Fleet / Diesel Mechanic in our Waterford, CT location! MES Shipman's Fire Equipment Company is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Mechanic to work on fire and rescue vehicles as an Apparataus Service Technician.

Job Description Summary for Service Technician-Apparatus

The Apparatus Service Technician specializes in servicing and maintaining emergency apparatus, such as fire trucks, ambulances, and other specialized vehicles first responders use. This role ensures emergency vehicles' operational readiness, safety, and reliability for responding to emergencies and protecting public safety. The ideal candidate will live within a reasonable commuting distance of Waterford, CT.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Inspection: Thoroughly inspect emergency apparatus to identify any mechanical, electrical, or structural issues.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot problems and determine necessary repairs.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Perform repairs and maintenance tasks on emergency apparatus, including engine repairs, brake replacements, electrical system repairs, and bodywork. This may involve replacing parts, repairing damaged components, and conducting routine maintenance services.
  • Emergency Equipment Installation: Install, repair, and maintain specialized equipment and systems integrated into emergency apparatus, such as firefighting equipment, hydraulic systems, communication devices, and lighting and siren systems.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with relevant safety standards, regulations, and manufacturer specifications. This includes adhering to guidelines set forth by regulatory bodies such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities on each emergency apparatus. This documentation is essential for tracking the vehicle's service history, ensuring compliance, and identifying recurring issues.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for vehicle repairs and maintenance. This includes ordering replacement parts, maintaining stock levels, and organizing the workshop area.
  • Customer Service: Professionally and courteously interact with emergency services personnel and other stakeholders. Address their concerns, guide vehicle maintenance best practices, and ensure timely resolution of issues.
