Overview
Multnomah County IT is searching for a limited-duration (LDA) IT Data Modeler Senior P rofessional. Limited Duration Assignments (LDA) are expected to last up to two (2) years, but may end sooner.
We are seeking a Senior IT Data Modeler with a strong analytical mindset, exceptional communication skills, and a talent for problem solving. The ideal candidate should be a natural leader capable of managing data modeling projects and fostering collaboration. Proficiency in documenting, a commitment to ethical standards, and deep technical expertise in data modeling and database management are essential. Additionally, the candidate should excel in change management, ensuring smooth transitions in the database system change control process. Essential Job Duties:
  • Lead and manage data modeling projects in collaboration with departments and outside agencies to build integrated solutions.
  • Plan, define requirements, design, develop, and maintain logical and physical data models for complex decision support systems.
  • Participate in the architecture of middle tier components as they relate to backend database requirements.
  • Lead the development of standards for metadata and interact with business analysts and application developers to ensure accuracy of metadata.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders to understand their data needs and develop solutions that meet those needs.
  • Document and maintain the data models, as well as training others on how to use them.
  • Provide expert design, development, performance tuning, and maintenance of complex mission critical data and analytic systems.
  • Automate the management of database server performance tuning and database life cycle utilizing database administration tools.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:
  • A bachelor's degree. In lieu of a degree, we will consider equivalent years (7 to 10 years) of qualifying training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position (Equivalency 7-10 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
  • The specific knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
Specific knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) required for this role:
  • Expert level of skills and knowledge around Data Modeling techniques and processes (including Dimensional Models, Star Schemas. Fact and Dimension Entities, Fact and Dimension Attributes, source to target mappings)
  • Expert level of skills with Data Modeling tools (example: Erwin, Mural Boards, Swagger)
  • Expert level of skill with SQL programming including stored procedures, query plans, functions and views
  • Advanced knowledge of or skill in Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Advanced Knowledge and Skill - Data Transformation Tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lakes, Cloud, etc)
  • Advanced Knowledge and Skill - Source control (Azure DevOps, Subversion, GIT)
  • Advanced Knowledge and Skill with Cloud API and Microsoft Azure API management (Postman)
  • Working Knowledge and Skill - Cloud Technology (Azure etc)
Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills: Y ou do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.   • Experience with AWS Redshift Serverless
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience with Matillion Data Productivity Cloud
  • Experience with Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud

Routine Telework: This position is designated as "routine telework," meaning you will be working remotely (from home); a hybrid schedule also is available. As with all routine telework positions, employees may be required to come into the office on occasion. The designation of Routine Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The onsite work location for this position is the Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.,Portland, OR.

Serving the Public, Even During Disasters
Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses, while typically there begins with a call for volunteers, county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities.
