Job Description

We are looking for a Full-Time Facilities Technician to maintain our school grounds who is able to work well independently, has handy-man knowledge for trouble-shooting and small repairs, and is wanting to learn and grow. This individual’s goal will be to maintain a safe, secure and clean environment for students and staff at the Multicultural Learning Center (MLC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs of the campus and grounds.
  • Troubleshooting frequent issues with plumbing, HVAC, electric, cabling etc. and be able to know what to refer to facility specialists if needed. 
  • Replace lights, adjust shades or blinds or adjust desks and other furniture.
  • Maintain school grounds which includes but is not limited to: rake, water, weed, plant and prune trees and shrubs, fertilize, and sweep and blow debris from walks and driveways, clean and maintain student eating and play areas.
  • Assure security of school during assigned hours; lock gates, doors, and windows
  • Perform daily traffic duty in school parking lot
  • Restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean out door hand washing stations.
  • Set up school facilities for special events and meetings
  • Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary
  • Maintaining inventory of cleaning agents and equipment
  • Assemble, repair and set-up desks and furniture, as assigned
  • Monitor for fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required
  • Assure safety of children while performing duties at school site
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Operations Manager 
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of related experience in an institutional setting preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures and surrounding areas; cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work
  • Knowledge of safety practices and work methods and proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to learn requirements of maintaining school buildings and facilities in a safe, clean and orderly condition
  • Learn the schedules, procedures and use of maintenance tools and supplies
  • Operate a variety of maintenance and cleaning equipment
  • Meet schedules and time lines
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Work cooperatively with others; complete minor repairs as necessary
  • Employment contingent upon clearance of Live Scan and TB test results

Physical Abilities

  • Climbing ladders to inspect and replace light
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate small hand and power tools and equipment
