PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintains data integrity in the pre-registration of patients, and verifying/updating demographics and insurance accurately and completely in order to drive a timely billing process.
  • Provides estimate of patient liabilities to patients, physicians and insurance companies based on estimates provided, including but not limited to:
    • Co-Payments
    • Deductibles
    • Co-Insurance
    • Deposits
    • Prior Account Balances
  • Requests payment on identified pre-service liabilities
  • Maintains high call center performance metrics including quality, adherence, and customer satisfaction
  • Identifies, communicates, and collects on patients’ outstanding balances and bad debt during pre-service financial discussions
  • Identifies and appropriately refers uninsured and under-insured patients to Patient Financial Navigators for assessment and assistance
  • Explains Advance Beneficy Notices (ABNs) to patients and reviews patient options and potential liabilities
  • Works with Scheduling and patients to reschedule or cancel appointments when an authorization cannot be obtained prior to service
  • Resolves inquiries received pertaining to patient accounts
  • Interprets regulations and policies for patients and patient families consistent with the defined scope of work
  • Serves as a resource for peers across throughout Patient Access
  • Reviews assigned workqueues and reports to ensure goals and deadlines are met
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations, continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned
  • Demonstrates overall knowledge of revenue cycle processing, insurance payer and benefit types, and pre-registration and financial clearance functional requirements
  • Provide feedback to management on issues that impede timeliness or quality of billing and work with management to resolve
  • May assist in training new staff
  • Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards, and maintains reliable attendance
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values (respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration and kindness), continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned

FTE: 1.0, Shift: Day, Schedule: 8:30am-5:00pm

Position Summary

The Pre-Registration Specialist works with patients to confirm relevant information prior to service and discuss and collect on patient liabilities providing the best in class customer service to ensure a patient friendly experience. The Specialist ensures accurate and complete registration data, demographic information, and insurance coverage is secured prior to services being rendered, and all patient liability estimates and expectations are communicated and collections attempted on the identified liabilty to meet daily productivity and quality standards.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of post high school business or college course work preferred
  • National Association of Healthcare Access Management Certification preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in dealing with the public in a customer service role preferred
  • Medical Terminology proficiency by exam AND one of the following:
  • One (1) year admitting, billing, or registration experience in a health care setting
  • OR Graduate of a health vocational program such as Medical Assistance, Medical Billing & Insurance, or Medical General
  • OR AA Degree and six months healthcare experience

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $19.86 - $28.58 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
