Pay rate starting at $14.50/hr. when working in the Care Base Coordinator role and starting at $18.00/hr. when working in the Phlebotomist role.

Mt. Macrina Manor is a 133 bed, not for profit, skilled nursing facility that has served Southwestern Pennsylvania since 1971. The grounds are located approximately one hour south of Pittsburgh in a scenic, peaceful rural area directly off Route 40 in Uniontown. The facility offers 24 hour nursing care, rehabilitative services, memory care, and pastoral care to all denominations. General Description:

The Care Base Coordinator/Phlebotomist assists the Charge and staff nurses in their daily recording and charting of medical and/or administrative information in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards. Provide direct technical and clerical functions to assist in the productivity of the nursing units.

They are responsible for drawing blood from residents for diagnostic purposes and will be responsible for labeling the specimen vials and arranging transportation of specimens to laboratories for analysis.

Essential Duties:

  • Demonstrates an understanding and puts into practice person-centered philosophy by entering into a relationship with the residents, families and staff where the goal is to provide a comfortable and home-like environment and the relationship develops into a meaningful and satisfying one for all involved.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments for diagnostic and therapeutic services; including notifying appropriate staff and family members. Also, set up transportation and completing all necessary documentation, copying and typing.
  • Maintain, forward and distribute necessary reports to the administrative and nursing staff.
  • Inventory supplies and forms for the nursing unit and requisition adequate supplies to meet nursing needs.
  • Answer telephone, take and deliver messages. Direct visitors to resident rooms, offices, etc., as necessary.
  • Maintain the residents’ charts by re-sheeting, mounting/filing reports, ensuring proper identification of each page, and forwarding discharged residents’ records to Medical Records. Assemble charts for new admissions as assigned.
  • Organize and maintain a neat, nursing station in order to promote a functional environment.
  • Prepare and audit MD visits.
  • Prepare lab sheets, x-ray forms, and transportation bills.
  • Assist with change over of MARs, TARs and ADLs.
  • Assist with transcription of MD orders as assigned.
  • Submit resident care charges to the billing office monthly as assigned.
  • Provide data to the CQI Committee as requested.
  • Maintain diploma in Phlebotomy.
  • Responsible for identifying residents by reviewing their identify documents.
  • Responsible to select gauge needles and preparing veins for blood draws through venipuncture.
  • Preparing specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to residents.
  • Responsible to order laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrate an understanding and put into practice excellent customer service.

  • HIPAA: Demonstrates confidentiality through a conscious effort to keep all personal information private. This may include the resident’s identity, physical or psychological condition, emotional status, or financial situation.

  • Actively participates in the Resident Dining Program after completing the Feeding Assistant Training Program unless already licensed or certified in an appropriate field. Functions may include:

    • Transporting residents to dining areas

    • Passing meal trays and assisting residents with tray set-up

    • Assisting with feeding residents who are not considered high risk

    • Adhering to dining schedules and assignments

  • Completes tasks within safety and regulatory guidelines
  • Any and all other duties, as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Phlebotomy
  • Experience working as a Phlebotomist
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Additional formal technical training preferred.
  • Possess knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Able to type, file, and organize.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general information in the English language.
  • Ability to walk, lift, bend at knees and waist, stoop, kneel, reach, climb step stool, and stand in place for periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Due to regulatory requirement by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid services, a COVID-19 vaccination is required and considered a condition of employment. To be eligible for hire with Mt. Macrina Manor, prospective employees must be fully vaccinated at time of orientation. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-shot series, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the J&J/Janssen vaccine.
