Mt. Hood Community College is Hiring an Instructor - Business Near Gresham, OR

Job Summary: 
Provides high quality instruction so that each student may meet learning outcomes. Primarily teaches courses related to business including, but not limited to, introduction to business, accounting, marketing, human relations, business technology, management and business law. Works with the dean and colleagues to improve student learning experiences. Provides advising and coordinates internship opportunities for students. Performs other instructional responsibilities as assigned and determined by the dean.
Essential Duties:
  1. Helps advance the role and goals of a comprehensive community college. 
  2. Teaches a range of community college courses in Business, which may include skill development and transfer level courses.
  3. Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  4. Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success. 
  5. Prepares clear learning outcomes for each course, and informs students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus. 
  6. Participates in college service and activities outside direct instruction, such as registration, curriculum development, strategic planning, and educational assessment. 
  7. Provides academic advising to business students and others as needed for university transfer and/or career readiness.
  8. Organizes and leads outreach activities and supports student recruitment, placement, and retention.
  9. Posts and keeps office hours to be available to students for assistance outside the classroom.
  10. Teaches at least one evening section per year as needed. 
  11. Keeps professionally current by participating in professional development and other activities; maintains current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation. 
  12. Maintains active liaison with high schools, universities, business and industry, or external agencies, and assists the dean with program advisory committees as appropriate. 
  13. Completes instructional duties, reports, and paper work assigned by the dean in a timely manner. 
  14. Attends division, department, and committee meetings and in-service programs.
  15. Incorporates, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, laboratory and office environments. 
  16. Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices.
  17. Complies with all Board policies and administrative regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in business, business administration, or related field OR master's degree or higher and 24 graduate credit hours in business, business administration, or related field OR current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices and service activities

Desired Qualifications:
  • Small business ownership or management experience. 
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the community college level
  • Experience facilitating learning in both face-to-face and online modalities
  • Three (3) years of work experience in any of the following functional areas of business: management, operations, marketing/ sales, accounting, finance, human resources 
  • Experience in developing programs including conducting outreach, finding internship opportunities, creating new courses or programs, or implementing grant objectives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the role and purpose of community colleges
  • Knowledge of and ability to respond to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students 
  • Ability to remote learning technologies, such as Zoom, learning management systems, Microsoft Teams, etc.

Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in a normal office environment and classroom setting.

Salary:
Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
