A camp counselor must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Godly character and integrity are essential for this position. A counselor is responsible for overseeing the spiritual needs of the children/youth in their care for the duration of a camper's 5 day stay, which includes 24 hr. care. A counselor's responsibilities includes: building relationships with campers, leading cabin devotions, facilitating discussion, implementing appropriate discipline when needed and building unity among the campers.
Qualifications:
Called by God to the ministry of Mt. Gilead
Strong, growing relationship with Jesus
Desire and ability to work with children ages 6 -18 years
Strong servant leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to disciple others in a biblically consistent way
Willingness to be flexible and perform all tasks assigned
Ability to handle a fast paced, moving schedule
Serve as a role model of godly character
Expectations:
Build relationships with campers for the purpose of evangelism and discipleship
Participate in all planned camper activities with enthusiasm and excitement
Be with your camper and know where they are at all times
Facilitation of Mt. Gilead Recreation and aquatics areas. Including: Climbing Wall, Zipline and Gilead Goliath Swing, Skate Park, BMX
Assist with the cleaning of camp before and after each week of summer camp
Physical Requirements:
Counseling involves helping with field games, hikes, swimming and other various physical activities. It is therefore, essential that candidates are able to perform activities that involve lifting, climbing, standing, and running.
Counselors serve under the leadership of the Program Director and the Summer Leadership Team. They provide support, equipping, encouragement and accountability to the counselors.
