Plant Equipment Operator

Essential Functions

· Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and related equipment as directed by the Shift Supervisor.

· Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of complex systems and equipment that can directly affect employee safety and the operation of the plant.

· Monitor the operation and material condition of all plant equipment, out in the plant.

· Communicate local equipment conditions to the CRO and Shift Supervisor.

· Ensure all plant equipment and systems are operating in accordance with applicable standard operating procedures and manufacturers’ recommendations.

· Investigate equipment problems and take the proper actions necessary to correct problems.

· Recommend equipment operating and/or maintenance changes that will enhance unit operation, equipment availability, and maximize plant capacity factor.

· Completion of plant equipment logs and plant reports.

· Must be capable of operating plants water treatment systems including performing daily water testing, fuel testing, and analyzing results.

· Perform necessary housekeeping functions to and around plant equipment, site and buildings.

· Perform corrective and preventive maintenance when necessary.

Other Functions

· Must work shiftwork, 12 Hour Rotating Shift.

· Holiday, weekend, overtime, and night shift work will be required.

· Required to have a telephone, must respond to call ins as needed.

· Assist in other work on an as-needed-basis as directed by management.

· Acts as a team member with all employees of Mt Carmel Cogen staff displaying a positive attitude, professional and courteous behavior.

Essential Physical Abilities

· Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.

· Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.

· Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment, accurately read and interpret instruments and gauges (must have eyesight corrected to 20/40), and communicate clearly on portable radios.

· Ability to respond to plant emergencies.

· Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces as required to complete assigned tasks.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight.

· Ability to pass a respirator physical and fit test.

· Ability to perform first aid and CPR.

· Valid driver’s license required.

Education / Experience

High School Diploma and 2 years of power plant related experience.

Working Environment

This job involves a working environment of 75% indoors and 25% outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
