Your team responsibilities

This exciting role reporting into the Global Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs (“GRA”) offers the unique opportunity to manage a small but best-in-class global team that tracks policy developments, assesses the impact for MSCI and its stakeholders and develops the policy positions of MSCI. On a daily basis, you can expect to be analyzing data, listening and creatively identifying solutions in partnership with our internal stakeholders to share our vision and perspectives with policymakers and regulators. Although this is primarily an internally focused role, you will work closely with our External Affairs team which manages our engagement with policymakers and regulators and the various lines of business in the Company. As our global policy expert, you will also be asked to engage on policy and regulatory developments impacting our ecosystem with our various stakeholders, including clients.

You will be a valued team member of our small, but impactful, GRA team which helps shape the public policy strategy for MSCI and engages with policymakers and regulators globally to support the commercial goals, risk management and corporate strategy of the Company.

Your key responsibilities

This role is a relatively new function at MSCI and is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter to create, and maintain, a program for the identification, analysis and communication of policy developments. In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • monitoring regulatory and legislative developments for effective and efficient information dissemination to GRA, the Company and our clients
  • developing and preparing written submissions to policymakers and regulators
  • managing the policy unit and developing the team as a whole and its members individually
  • ensuring that MSCI’s policy positions align with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements
  • supporting the Company in understanding the policy and regulatory ecosystem and assisting with the interpretation of legislation and regulation to assist the Company in developing new products
  • assisting the Company in navigating laws and regulations relevant to MSCI
  • supporting the development of a policy trend analysis to facilitate the understanding of any proposed legal or regulatory developments that may impact MSCI and/or our clients
  • supporting the GRA team in delivering against defined strategies and goals
  • identify opportunities to commercialize GRA output
  • working with, and managing, external consultants
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
  • an entrepreneurial mindset and work ethic
  • at least 10 years’ experience in a similar role or a role in government or with a regulator helping to design and implement legislative or regulatory policy in the financial services and/or information/data sectors
  • a proven ability to lead initiatives through to completion with minimal supervision
  • a thorough understanding of policymaking in key regional centers in the US, EMEA and AsiaPac
  • a keen interest in global policymaking and political developments
  • an ability to develop positions on complex public policy issues, including in financial and data services
  • intellectual curiosity and a creative approach to thinking through challenging policy developments
  • an ability to act independently but also within a team environment
  • a combination of political and commercial acumen
  • excellent writing, communication and organizational skills
  • a desire to learn and facilitate business understanding of regulatory and policy developments
  • a legal qualification (preferred).
