OXFORD HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT

TITLE: Director of Special/Student Services

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Maine Certification as Administrator of Special Education (030)

2. Master’s Degree

3. Teaching, supervising and/or administrative Experience

4. Effective communication and collaboration skills.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

SUPERVISES: Staff members designated by the Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To provide educational services for students

who have needs beyond the regular classroom

programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensures the implementation of District’s mission and goals.

2. Conducts appropriate IEP meetings, makes parent contacts when necessary and communicates with appropriate interagency contacts. 

  1. Recommends programs essential to the needs of children with disabilities as defined in State and Federal Law. 
  1. Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education. 
  1. Provides leadership in establishing new programs and developing improved understanding of existing programs. 
  1. Develops, initiates, and processes programs and procedures for identification and placement of children with disabilities. 
  1. Supervises special education services, Section 504, and nursing. 
  1. Develops procedures for securing and maintaining special education student records. 
  1. Budgets, supervises, and coordinates instruction for homebound or hospitalized students. 
  1. Assists in supervising and evaluating special education personnel. 
  1. Assists in recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of any special education personnel. 
  1. Assumes responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents legally required or administratively useful. 
  1. Coordinates needs with Director of Transportation for special transportation. 
  1. Develops budget recommendations and monitors expenditures on special education budgets. 
  1. Keeps informed of the status of financial resources for special education. 
  1. Interprets the objectives and programs of special education to the Board, the administration, the staff, and the public. 
  1. Evaluates the total special education program, procedures and individual student needs and achievements. 
  1. Makes recommendations on design, furnishings, equipment, and location of new special education facilities. 
  1. Serves as the case manager for all out of district placements. 
  1. Works with principals, curriculum coordinator and regular education staff in coordinating the special education with the total education program of the district. 
  1. Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

OXFORD HILLS REGION

The Oxford Hills School District (MSAD 17) encompasses the towns of Norway, South Paris, West Paris, Oxford, Waterford, Harrison, Hebron and Otisfield. MSAD 17 shares vocational resources and accepts students in its Oxford Hills Technical School programs from the RSU10 School District towns of Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner. Oxford Hills/Nezinscot Adult Education is located within the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

The Oxford Hills offer a variety of outdoor resources for anyone wishing to enjoy the region, whatever the season. The area boasts more than ten lakes and ponds for outdoor recreation, a land trust with hundreds of acres for skiing, snowshoeing, and is in close proximity to several downhill skiing areas!
