Basic Function Staff member will participate in conducting studies and perform experimental or laboratory work according to instructions or protocols. Nature and Scope Staff member reports administratively to a section manager or higher technical-level staff member. This staff member may also report to a project manager or group leader. Staff members at the senior technician level are expected to conduct work in their areas of training and experience under direction from supervisors or by following established protocols. Tasks at the senior technician level may vary widely. Essential Functions Conducts assigned work required for the project according to instructions or protocols and maximizes billable project work, while alerting supervisor of potential overload. Plans and manages work execution and associated data, including preparation of supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory of supplies, recording experimental data, and performing calculations. Communicates results and issues to the appropriate managers. Works with supervisor to schedule and receive all necessary training to perform duties. Follows all necessary procedures, SOPs, protocols, and instructions required to perform tasks and support projects/studies in accordance with all applicable quality (QA/QC) policies and Safety. Suggests procedures for methods that will better accomplish the requirements of the project and for the continuous improvement of laboratory, field, or facility operations. Success Factors Experience in an appropriate laboratory environment, including sample preparation, instrumentation, computer databases, and safety. Ability to follow SOPs, conduct work with limited supervision, and provide accurate and complete documentation Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by specific assignments. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team-based environment Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and be well organized, analytical, and flexible to changing priorities Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years of college or relevant experience.
