Associate Chemist

MRIGlobal is seeking highly motivated people to join our Physical Sciences Resource Center in Charlottesville VA to serve in an Associate Chemist role.

The Associate Chemist is an integral part of our team supporting and directing research and development laboratory activities, while gaining a thorough understanding of relevant federal programs, QA / Safety / SOPs, and analytical instrumentation.

We are looking for individuals that have one or more of the following backgrounds : analytical chemistry, pharmaceuticals, materials science, High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry, and nanoparticles.

May be required to travel OCONUS (as needed).

Research / Testing Duties may include but are not limited to the following :

  • Perform forensic sample preparation and analysis of samples.
  • Perform various standard preparation and sample preparation tasks.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of analytical instrumentation to include one or more of the following :
  • Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy
  • Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC / MS)
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)
  • Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry / Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS / MS)
  • Liquid and Gas Chromatography - High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC-HRMS & GC-HRMS)
  • Scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS)
  • X-ray fluorescence (XRF)
  • X-ray diffraction (XRD)
  • Develop new methods based on the Client’s current and future needs.
  • Document results in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Document physical appearance of samples using photographic equipment.
  • Evaluate and critically assess analytical results to provide traceable and accurate results to clients.
  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform technical reviews of analytical data and reports.
  • Prepare summary analytical data reports.
  • Interact with clients to provide updates and summary of testing results.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • M.S. in Chemistry or related field, or B.S. in Chemistry or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willing to assume responsibility for laboratory areas to meet all safety and security requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for all aspects of job assignments
  • Demonstrate creative problem resolution; meets client expectations in a timely fashion
  • Well organized and methodical, yet flexible to changing priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously either in structured or non-structured work environment
  • Maintain legible and logical laboratory records documentation
  • PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, and Outlook) and ability to learn new software and systems
  • Current government security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship
