About Us:
Middle River Aerostructure Systems is a world-leading manufacturer of thrust reversers (the braking system on a jet engine), engine nacelle components and specialized aerostructures. It supplies and supports these products for engine makers, airplane manufacturers and aircraft operators. Located on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore, MRAS has a 1.7-million sq. ft. facility situated on 180 acres – where the company and its predecessors have designed, built and equipped civil and military aircraft for over 90 years. In 2019, MRAS was acquired by ST Engineering North America, the U.S. affiliate of Singapore-based ST Engineering – becoming a part of its global network of aerospace facilities and offices. With the ownership change, the company was renamed Middle River Aerostructure Systems.
Role Summary/Purpose
The Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer - Metals serves as the Materials & Process Engineering representative for metals and metallic related support tied to internal production and external supplier support. This includes working with the various internal functional groups (Engineering, Sourcing/Procurement, Quality, and Operations) in support of production and development program issue resolution.
The M&P Engineer will work in the Materials and Processing Engineering team, on site at Middle River, supporting metallic tasks related to material/product quality, failure analysis, material selection/identification, and related processes. The engineer will serve as a project focal for identified metallic related projects of varying complexities from beginning to end. Such projects will require various types of testing and analysis across a wide range of material characteristics– physical, mechanical, thermal, and/or chemical. The engineer demonstrates a fundamental background in numerous types of metal, including but not limited to aluminum (and its alloys), steel (CRES, stainless), Titanium (and its alloys), and Nickel (and its alloys). The engineer also demonstrates a fundamental background in various corrosion protection schemes related to the above metallic materials.
The engineer demonstrates an ability to work with limited to some supervision, and in collaboration with others, effectively interfacing and integrating their activities within the engineering organization. An ability to establish and manage multiple projects within time constraints is required. The candidate is also responsible for timely identification and communication of project obstacles to engineering technical leads.
