Mount Saint Mary College is Hiring a Dean of the School of Nursing Near Newburgh, NY

Job Title: Dean of the School of Nursing

Reports To: Vice President for Academic Affairs 

Status: Full Time, Exempt

General Description

The Dean will provide leadership and counsel to the School of Nursing’s faculty, students, and staff, and will serve as the School’s primary advocate in the College, the community and beyond. That leadership will be based on an understanding of the fundamental principles, mission, and values of the College and the School of Nursing, which are rooted in the Catholic Dominican tradition. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring trends in nursing education to strategically plan, develop, and implement the expansion of nursing programs, ensure adherence to accreditation standards, participate in research, and establish community partnerships for ongoing collaborations, growth, and support of the School of Nursing.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership, vision, oversight, and forward-directed inspiration for the School of Nursing and all of its programs.
  2. Act as a representative/liaison with all internal and external constituencies associated with the School of Nursing. Focus on relationship building between current and future healthcare partners to strengthen community ties and work toward partnerships promoting clinical excellence in nursing education.
  3. Oversee community advisory board meetings to garner insights into industry needs to ensure ongoing quality improvement of the School of Nursing curriculum.
  4. Assume responsibility for hiring and replacing School of Nursing fulltime faculty and staff in collaboration with the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  5. Prepare annual reports to the NYS Education Department, CCNE, and internal School of Nursing reports submitted to the Vice President for Academic Affairs or other College personnel for the purpose of data collection and program improvements.
  6. Oversee any necessary curriculum development, in the form of revisions and additions needed to advance program quality and integrity.
  7. Prepare budget projections and manage budgets for all nursing programs.
  8. Work in conjunction with College Admissions, the Office of Student Success, and the VPAA in optimizing the number of incoming students specific to each program.
  9. Work with program coordinators and faculty to implement and maintain rigor of programs necessary to achieve and maintain excellence in NCLEX and graduate program credentialing scores of our programs’ graduates. 
  10. Provide ongoing communication with and among faculty through mandatory monthly School faculty and staff meetings.
  11. Assign and maintain balanced advisement loads for School faculty.
  12. Oversee non-tenured faculty through review of student and course evaluations, grade distributions, and completion of Faculty Data Forms for Promotion and Tenure process.
  13. Provide oversight of program outcomes and evaluations through continuous review of clinical needs, student survey data, retention and graduation rates, NCLEX scores, graduate competency exam rates, employment rates, etc., related to maintenance of professional accreditation.
  14. Work closely with the Chairperson and Graduate Coordinator to ensure oversight of the hiring and evaluation processes for clinical and non-clinical adjunct instructors.
  15. Encourage academic and professional growth of faculty through involvement in research, publication, and presentations at professional conferences.
  16. Oversee the contract process between the School of Nursing and clinical agencies.
  17. In consultation with the Chairperson, assign faculty for representation at College events (e.g., Orientations, New Student Days, and Open Houses), as well as any other relevant functions that require representation by School of Nursing faculty on behalf of the College.

Requirements

  1. Earned doctorate in Nursing or a related field, and an earned master’s degree in Nursing.
  2. Possesses an unencumbered NYS nursing license.
  3. Relevant administrative experience and demonstrated leadership ability as Dean or Assistant/Associate Dean in nursing baccalaureate and advanced degree programs.
  4. Experience teaching in nursing baccalaureate and advanced degree programs with demonstrated commitment to furthering excellence in teaching and nursing practice.
  5. Appropriate academic experience and scholarly work enabling possession of the rank of at least Associate Professor.
  6. Significant involvement in professional activities (e.g., research, national/international presentation of scholarly work, professional committee membership in academic, community, and national organizations).
  7. A commitment to furthering the School of Nursing and its mission in regard to excellence in curriculum, program expansion, and support of faculty in their academic and professional growth.
