Mount Marty University is Hiring a Director of Residence Life Near Yankton, SD

Overview

Mount Marty University is pleased to accept applications for a Director of Residence Life. This is an exempt, 12 month, full-time position and must adhere to the regulations stipulated in the Mount Marty University Handbooks. The Director of Residence Life is responsible for the leadership and management of housing operations and a comprehensive residential education with a strategic vision focused on growth and diversity. The Director is responsible for fostering a living and learning environment that contributes to whole-person, student development and leads students and staff through the development and delivery of intentional, holistic programming and community standards consistent with the mission of the University as well as providing a safe atmosphere for the entire campus. The Director creates and assesses learning outcomes for residential education, establishes and maintains retention practices and data, participates in setting and achieving room and board revenue goals and assumes overall responsibility for all facets of housing. Live on options are available but are not required.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Create a residential environment that supports the MMU mission and core values, inspires community and personal growth, and incorporates student development theories.

* Provide fiscal management for department budget; supervise professional and support staff, ensuring efficient operations and programming.

* Administer housing program, including room selection for returning students, updating housing contracts & agreements, room assignments for new students, break requests, etc.

* Evaluate and assess University housing occupancy, revenue, retention and projection trends; oversee the residential facilities to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment; confirm all room assignments; complete billings and communication to students.

* Select, supervise, evaluate, train, and develop professional and student Residence Life staff to ensure University policies and procedures, laws and regulations are followed.

* Collaborate with Operations to oversee the facility operations components of the residential program (maintenance, custodial, key management, condition reporting and inventory, life cycle planning, opening and closing buildings, etc.)

* Serve as a student conduct officer for violations within the residential community and provide consistent and fair application of residence life and university policies.

* Actively support retention efforts in a collaborative relationship with the Student Affairs and other University departments.

* Effectively manage crisis and emergency situations arising in the residence halls and the greater campus community in cooperation with Campus Safety and other campus offices.

* Ability to have flexible scheduling to accommodate early morning, late evening, weekend activities and on-call duty rotation.

* Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Success.

Qualifications

* A Master's degree in Student Personnel, Student Development, Student Affairs, Counseling, Educational Administration or related field required.

* A minimum of two (2) years work experience in residence life; including supervision of professional and student staff, and housing occupancy management for 400 beds.

* An understanding of and commitment to the values and objectives of a Catholic liberal arts education and the ability to effectively communicate with academically talented college students is essential along with the following skills: leadership, decision making, conflict resolution, creativity, and general knowledge of facility maintenance.

* Knowledge of college student development (theory and practice

* Strong people skills, including the ability to work with all constituencies at the University and with vendors and other groups outside of the University.

* Experience with housing management and billing systems.
