Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the effective selection, development and ongoing performance management of staff, to ensure the right talent is in place to achieve staff experience, clinical, patient experience, quality and financial goals.
2. The Nurse Manager is the role model for excellence in leadership, quality, patient experience, staff experience and service excellence.
3. Supports the unit staff (Nurses, PCAs, OTs, and Social Workers) in the identification of patient care priorities and promotes the development of critical thinking skills in the clinical areas.
4. Assists the team in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Serves as an internal consultant for difficult and/or complex patient care needs.
5. Partners with the Director to prepare and monitor unit budgets and prepares variance reports and plans for budget adherence, as needed.
6. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, participates in the development and implementation of standards of nursing care practice. Utilizes knowledge of nursing research to support and advance professional nursing practice. Critically analyzes research studies in area of specialization to justify inclusion/exclusion of findings into practice. Advances professional nursing practice through publication and/or membership participation in professional nursing organizations and best practice research.
7. Represents the nursing discipline and/or own unit on hospital-wide committees and or initiatives.
8. Directly and/or through collaboration the Assistant Nurse Manager, ensures all credentials including, but not limited to licensure, certifications, trainings, and competencies are maintained in accordance with the appropriate regulatory and/or hospital requirements.
9. Participates in multi-disciplinary clinical meetings with the main objective being the successful treatment and management of patient care. Models and promotes patient advocacy.
10. Reviews all incident reports, restraint and seclusion forms for completeness and clarity of the episode/problem. Report all negative outcomes of such episodes, in a timely manner, to quality and safety and problem solve with other managers to prevent further negative outcomes.
11. Responsible for the development of education materials for patients, families, and staff and collaborates with Quality and Safety and/or Nursing Professional Development as needed.
12. Responsible for ongoing process improvement efforts in all assigned areas to meet or exceed benchmarks in key areas.
13. Identifies staff educational needs and develops educational programs to meet those needs. Works collaboratively with the Educators to ensure that appropriate education programs are planned, developed and implemented to meet the ongoing educational needs of staff. Accepts responsibility for identifying and meeting own educational needs.
14. Participates in the development and implementation of both broad nursing division goals and department/unit specific goals.
15. Maintains effective open communication across all areas to ensure alignment of programs, services, outcomes.
16. Participates in the educational experiences of students on clinical rotations through affiliated schools.
17. Maintains thorough understanding of hospital policies and protocols, and practices within those policies and protocols, and ensures compliance. Demonstrates competency with all regulatory expectations and guidelines (i.e. DMH, DPH, BORM, BORN, Joint Commission).
18. Builds collegial relationships resulting in compassionate and committed teams across Psychiatry and with all stakeholders. All work must be done with a thorough understanding and commitment to the Mount Auburn Hospital culture, including the core values and leadership model.
19. Participates in the development and implementation of standards, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures across all areas, which facilitate quality patient care, creative professional practice and meets all requirements of state and federal agencies.
20. Responsible for ongoing process improvement efforts in all assigned areas to meet or exceed benchmarks in key areas.

Physical Nature of the Job: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
