POSITION SUMMARY:

The ME Manager is accountable for the oversight of the manufacturing engineering and maintenance departments. This role involves supervising the development and execution of manufacturing processes to uphold product functionality and cost efficiency. The ME Manager ensures seamless collaboration between the manufacturing engineering team and other relevant departments, while also leading and guiding assigned manufacturing engineers. Active participation in corporate-level teams and projects is also expected as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Leads and manages the manufacturing engineering and maintenance teams to ensure they are providing their deliverables as defined on the manufacturing engineering visibility board and to corporate standards and expectations.
  • Ensures product manufacturing, processes and projects are designed to be completed safely.
  • Ensures Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) are being reviewed and interpreted appropriately by the manufacturing engineering team and direction is being provided to production, QA and the material groups to support these changes.
  • Ensures the MCI Fort Garry buildings, grounds and equipment is maintained and preventative maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives are sustained.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering support to production, QA, customer service and other areas as required.
  • Works effectively as a member of the manufacturing management team to ensure operational metrics are achieved and any remedial action is actively pursued.
  • Leads assigned groups and project teams on continuous improvement activities using lean concepts and tools.
  • Reviews tasks and project assignments and balances the work load between group members to meet deadlines.
  • Ensures that manpower assignments are being planned by cell and are communicated to production in advance.
  • Ensures the manufacturing engineers in each cell are assigning locators for active parts, maintaining inventory maps for their area and are supporting materials in improving material flow and resolving issues.
  • Hires, trains and develops assigned employees. Evaluates assigned employees and initiates corrective action where required.
  • Initiates, evaluates and approves Standard Work Instructions and other documents as required.
  • Support valid layouts are maintained (plant & cell layouts, inventory, housekeeping, emergency, & security maps)
  • Specifies and facilitates capital and equipment upgrades, installations or modifications and ensures approved projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develops departmental budgets, ensures departmental spending is within budgeted levels and accounts for any deviations to the approved budget.
  • Facilitates lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, set-up reduction etc.) as required.
  • Promotes an environment of continuous improvement and team work.
  • Ensures that manufacturing engineering is effectively participating in SWAT team meetings, ensuring that necessary action is taken between cross-functional groups to resolve issues.
  • Ensures process observations are conducted by each manufacturing engineer within their cell to ensure that assigned time standards are fair and consistent and manufacturing issues are identified and resolved.
  • Maintains necessary labor resource plans (such as the labor matrix).
  • Monitors high level routings and submit routing change requests to process planning where appropriate.
  • Ensures contract reviews are conducted prior to contract start to ensure production preparedness (PDP process).
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of new products into the manufacturing process.
  • Ensures the manufacturing engineers are participating in Non-Conforming Parts (NCP) meetings as assigned
  • Initiates engineering change requests (ECRs) where appropriate.
  • Supports process planning and production engineering.
  • Investigate safety incidents and implement countermeasures to prevent recurrence
  • Coordinate monthly production planning
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Manufacturing engineering degree/diploma and/or related courses & work experience
  • Lean and/or APICS certification or applicable equivalent work experience is an asset
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation is an asset
  • Ten years’ experience in a managerial role, manufacturing setting preferably in the transportation, automotive or bus industry.
  • Familiarity and/or experience within a JIT or lean environment.
  • Experience with Auto Cad or UniGraphics, Microsoft Office, Oracle (MRP)
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
