Job Details:

  • Reports to: Chief of Staff
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Pay: $45,000 to $50,000 annual salary, commensurate with education and experience
The Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) is the largest not-for-profit provider of quality education, employment, and health and recreation programs in the impoverished neighborhoods of the North Bronx, serving the needs of more than 35,000 residents each year. Since our founding as a neighborhood community center in 1942, MMCC has served the needs of thousands of neighbors from all cultural backgrounds, religions, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations and special needs.

Position Summary:
We are looking for a competent Volunteer Coordinator to engage, recruit and manage
 volunteers. You will be responsible for developing strategizing and implementing an expanded volunteer program across the entire agency. This means working with the executive team on strategies and opportunities for volunteerism and agency expansion as well as building support among staff and cultivating a sustainable pool of talent (prospective volunteers). It takes a competent leader to succeed in this position; doing everything possible to motivate and inspire. You must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. The goal is to ensure that our organization is always staffed with the best and most reliable individuals and that they are effectively engaged in fulfilling our mission.
Responsibilities:
  • Identify current and emerging needs of volunteers
  • Develop volunteer position descriptions
  • Design and implement recruitment strategy for volunteers
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries
  • Maintain volunteer database
  • Select applicants for interviews
  • Match volunteers with assignments
  • Develop and conduct volunteer orientation and training plans
  • Support ongoing development of volunteers' skills
  • Survey staff regularly to assess the need for volunteer assistance
  • Develop and implement a volunteer recognition and retention plan
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities
  • Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment and to multi-task
  • Provide volunteer engagement opportunities for MMCC board members upon request
Skills and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors’ Degree
  • 3 years of experience supervising programs
  • Computer Skills- Ability to work with database systems, spreadsheets, and shared documents
  • 3-5 years experience in volunteer management or relevant experience preferred
