The Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) is the largest not-for-profit provider of quality education, employment, and health and recreation programs in the impoverished neighborhoods of the North Bronx, serving the needs of more than 35,000 residents each year. We are seeking a dynamic part-time ABE/GED Math/Science Instructor to work with a diverse group of adult learners. The class meets for two sessions a week.
Part-Time Career Readiness GED Math/Science Instructor Job Description:
Part-time Seasonal
$30-$35/hour commensurate on education and experience.
Duties:
Providing high-quality instruction to help students develop their conceptual understanding and math skills
Teaches adult students from various socio-economic backgrounds and education levels to take and pass the GED (High School Equivalency) exam.
Tracks student attendance, academic, professional & personal gains/accomplishments.
Checks student progress via the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and other approved instruments to establish each student's baseline education level.
Designing engaging lessons to help students foster an appreciation of math
Collaborating with staff and teachers to develop best teaching practices and enriching materials
Reviewing and communicating class progress with both staff and students
Actively partaking in teacher meetings and professional development
Maintaining class attendance and submitting in a timely manner
Participating in program-wide events and activities
Conducting required assessments and exams
Qualifications:
Candidate must have Bachelor's degree and relevant teaching and education experience.
Experience with online and in-person teaching preferred.
Prior adult education experience, Master’s Degree a plus.
This is an in-person position and proof of Covid-19 vaccination must be submitted prior to hire.
