Job Summary This position will work in coordination with the Morton County Park Director in performing a variety of structural and grounds maintenance / repair work for County parks and facilities.
Incumbent performs routine manual work in connection with the general and specific upkeep and maintenance of campground facilities and park grounds.
Primarily responsible for ensuring cleanliness of grounds; maintaining county parks, grounds surrounding county facilities, recreational facilities, scenic drives, and other grounds surrounding county parks buildings.
Adhere to all County policies and procedures, risk management and safety programs and procedures Inspects all grounds, lawns, landscapes and reports any safety issues, defects, malfunctions, vandalism, or defacement on a daily basis.
Perform humane rodent trapping as needed, with approval from Park Foreman Performing building maintenance including cleaning, painting, and exterior clean up.
Inspects, cleans, and repairs tools and equipment related to assignment Maintain awareness of activities or situations that require the immediate attention of County staff;
Ability to plan and organize daily work routine; Uses hand and power equipment to plant, irrigate, fertilize and maintain lawns, plants, shrubs, and trees.
Power equipment includes but not limited to push and self-propelled mowers, dump trucks, water trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, aerial platforms, hole augers, truck-trailer units, and chain saws.
Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as weed eater, blower, mower, edger, truck, trailer, etc. Performs routine maintenance on equipment such as changing oil, oil filters, air filters, blades, etc.
Work outdoors, sometimes under adverse climatic and hazardous conditions; Uses a variety of tools such as blower, rake, shovel, pitchfork, standard office tools, etc.
a variety of supplies such as janitorial supplies, mixed gas, weed eater line, gloves, bleach, disinfectant foam, towels, insect sprays, general office supplies.
Meets and deals with the public in a professional, helpful and pleasant manner. Acts as a goodwill ambassador for the County at all times.
Maintains a professional, cooperative working relationship with other Park staff members. Employees are also expected to lead by example and demonstrate the highest level of ethics.
Work is generally performed outdoors. Perform repetitive activities (calculating, keyboarding, and writing). This position will regularly utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing systems, and fax machines.
At times, this may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. An employee may encounter spiders, snakes, poison ivy, and other allergic conditions.
Employees in this position will typically perform the majority of their duties and responsibilities in an outdoor environment and be exposed to varying climatic conditions.
The employee may : perform work alone, or as part of a team and in close proximity to others, be assigned duties at various site locations;
be subject to call out, or work a varying work week. An employee may be exposed to wet, hot or cold conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, traffic, heights, confined spaces, slippery or uneven surfaces, and work around construction and maintenance equipment.
have manual dexterity and vision to safely use equipment and tools. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications and Skills Must be at least 18 years of age due to hazards encountered on the job. Previous experience performing grounds maintenance work for parks and recreational areas is highly desirable.
