SUMMER CAMP TEACHER/NATURALIST (Full-time, Seasonal)

- July 8 – August 20, 2024 - Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM

- Based at various sites in the Morris County Park Commission:

o Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham

o Pyramid Mt. Natural Historic Area in Montville

- Duties include:

o Lead week-long sessions of “Adventures in Nature: Predators and Prey” Day Camp for ages 5 - 7. This includes all aspects of programming including set up, supervision, clean up, adjusting activities to the needs of individual campers, maintaining discipline, evaluation, and communication with Manager of Environmental Education.

o Work effectively with parents of campers, projecting a knowledgeable, confident, and positive image.

o Provide fun, educational, and safe experiences for up to 16 children at a time with assistance from 2 part-time staff.

o Supervise teen volunteers.

o Assist with enhancing current curriculum and developing new lessons on various natural history themes.

o Assist with other camps for ages 5 – 10.

- Requirements:

o Degree in Natural Sciences, Education, or related field preferred. At least one year of experience in presenting educational programs to children required.

o Knowledge of and passion for the natural world.

o Enthusiastic, outgoing, patient, and flexible when working with children and adults.

o Ability to work both independently and on a team with minimal supervision.

o Willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and to lead hikes on variable terrain, including rocky and hilly trails.

o Comfortable handling or learning to handle live reptiles and invertebrates (training provided).

o Certification in First Aid and CPR or ability to obtain certification prior to start date

o Valid New Jersey Driver's license and personal transportation.

o 3 professional references.

- Starting salary: $18/hr.
