The School-Based Registered Nurse ("School Nurse") is a contractual academic school year position that is a partnership between Morgan State University and Baltimore City Public Schools. The School Nurse fulfills multiple roles which serve to promote student health and educational success including: providing direct care and assessments to students and populations; providing leadership for the provision of health services and programmatic coordination on the local, regional and state level; providing/coordinating screening and referral for health conditions; promoting a healthy school environment; promoting/providing health education, referral and advocacy; serving in leadership roles for health policies and programs; being a member of the multidisciplinary educational team; being a liaison between school personnel, family, health care professionals, and the community; and serving as a case manager to chronically ill students including delegation of care needs and health services delivery oversight.
Summary of Job Duties:
Provide basic healthcare to students in the case of injury or acute illness
Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans for students with chronic illnesses and/or medical disabilities
Complete nursing appraisal for all student with chronic illnesses and/or medical disabilities
Develop and promote health education programs for the school community
Maintain all clinical records
Coordinate state mandated, annual vision and hearing screenings for assigned school(s)
Counsel students, parents, teachers, and school administrators regarding health problems, providing information and/or referrals to community resources
Develop plans and procedures, as well as training of staff for emergency management of illnesses and injuries within the school community
Monitor and track student immunization compliance
Train and monitor unlicensed school staff in administering routine and emergency medications to students with chronic health conditions
Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary student support team, providing health counsel in the development and implementation of both Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504b Plans for students with chronic health conditions
Serve as a member of the student wellness support team, providing input regarding to mental wellness and case management
Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards
Requested Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must have an Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution. A valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Maryland, in good standing with the board is required. An active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. Procession of a valid U.S. driver's license is also required.

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university preferred
At least one year of clinical experience in a tertiary care setting, pediatric care preferred
Proficiency in the use of computer systems, such as Microsoft Office
Experience with utilizing an Electronic Health Record System preferred.
