Morf3D is Hiring an Additive Manufacturing Engineer Near Long Beach, CA

Position Overview

The Additive Manufacturing Engineer will learn and support the design and development of customer concepts to create the highest quality AM parts for Aerospace production. Collaborating across the organization, this role will support solutions and strategies to optimize and hone additive manufacturing techniques. The Additive Manufacturing Engineer will interface with internal and external customers to ensure that parts meet and exceed quality, schedule, and budgetary expectations. Therefore; customer engagement is a key component of the role.

This is an entry-level engineering position with the company, with significant opportunity for growth based on proven capability and competence. Our engineering team is a close-knit group of problem-solvers who enjoy working hands-on through the end-to-end Additive lifecycle. This role reports to the Director of Engineered Solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the definition and development the end-to-end additive manufacturing process in the design and engineering of additive hardware
  • Learn and apply methods and techniques for design and build optimization on additive parts
  • Collaborate with engineering team members to strengthen personal technical capabilities and that of the overall organization

Job Duties

  • Engage with customers (with management guidance) to verify that the requirements for additive manufacturing production solutions have been captured and documented
  • Support cross-departmental teams for development of new applications, processes, testing, or other related project initiatives
  • Investigate new AM technologies, request quotations, select vendors, issue requisitions, schedule demonstrations, and provide technical recommendations and direction

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply of a variety of aerospace capabilities related additive manufacturing systems, supporting equipment, and hardware
  • Clear communication of technical issues related to manufacturing and engineering design
  • Solid computer skills, including CAD and FEM modeling and learning AM simulation methods
  • Fundamental technical manufacturing experience (CNC, Heat Treat, Assembly, Surface Treatment, NDT, and other special processes)
  • Ability to read and interpret specification requirements

Education / General Requirements

  • REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree, Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace)
  • PREFERRED: 0 - 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (Aerospace preferred)
  • REQUIRED: To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations applicants must be a US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder) per ITAR regulations defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)

Work Environment and Safety Requirements

  • Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly for up to one hour, including gloves, hearing protection, eye protection, protective footwear, and respirators 
  • Ability to learn technical material relating to additive manufacturing
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to two hours
  • Ability to inspect, twist, place, and position parts
  • Ability to operate digital applications on an interface, such as a tablet or smartphone
  • Ability to communicate with teammates and internal stakeholders with daily updates, hazard concerns, questions, and issues
  • Ability to detect non-conformances, inspect additively manufactured parts, and assess post-processing for flaws
