MORAVIAN HOME INCORPORATED is Hiring a Med Tech Near Salem, NC

Job Summary:

The Medical Technician supports, in an Assisted Living (AL) setting, the provision of high-quality resident care by following physician orders, encouraging resident independence, adhering to individualized care plans, promoting a secure environment, etc.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supports physician-prescribed prescription regimen by administering medication and treatments, remaining attentive at all times to potential medication interactions and side effects while monitoring resident response, performing various tests and procedures, maintaining up-to-date documentation including, but not limited to, medication administration records, treatment records, distribution of controlled substances, etc., reporting resident status changes to a licensed nurse, re-ordering medication, etc.
  • Encourages the independent performance of residents’ activities of daily living to the extent everyone’s condition permits and provides assistance with residents’ activities of daily living as needed by performing duties including, but not limited to assisting residents to dining rooms; assisting residents at mealtimes; assist with bathing as needed; etc.
  • Supports individual care plans by remaining informed at all times of the condition and needs of residents assigned to his/her care; follows care plans including, but not limited to, taking and recording vital signs as instructed, recording bowel movements, providing and distributing supplemental feedings, accurately recording food and fluid intake and outputs; performs catheter care per orders; transports residents to and from clinics and between residences; observes, reports, and documents status changes in an accurate and timely manner, etc.
  • Limits opportunity for infection by adhering to policies and procedures relevant to medication/treatment administration, using personal protective equipment in every aspect of resident care; changing bed linens as necessary, seeing that soiled linen gets to laundry, etc.
  • Support residents’ security, comfort, and sense of well-being by responding promptly and courteously to routine physical needs including, but not limited to, answering residents’ calls, attending to legitimate needs or requests, making regular rounds to check on residents, providing information to residents and visiting family members about procedures and changes to established schedules.
  • Maintains job knowledge by attending mandatory in-services, maintaining certification by pursuing continuing education.
  • Assists in maintaining the physical and psychosocial environment by visiting with residents, conducting activities, transporting residents to and from activities in which they can participate.
  • Contribute to teamwork by assisting other staff as assigned or needed. Includes assisting other CNAs with CNA tasks as time allows.
  • Promotes & supports Salemtowne Shines culture & philosophy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of medication principles and practices.

  • Motivated and self-directed to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of state-certified medication administration course.
  • Six (6) months' previous experience in a health care setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of standing and walking short distances for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull objects more than 50 pounds.
  • Stoop and bend at the knees, twisting from side to side at the waist.
  • Reach above, below, and at shoulder level.

Work Environment:

Works in a clean, well-lighted facility. Possible work hazards include bloodborne pathogens, moving parts, muscular pains, and strong offensive odors.
