Montgomery County Pennsylvania is Hiring a Part-Time Assistant Deputy Coroner Near Eagleville, PA

SUMMARY

Assist Deputy Coroners to receive and investigate all deaths reported to the office, to include scene response when necessary, and prepare complete, accurate, and legible reports. Provide support to Deputy Coroners both at death scenes and in the office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer phones, transfer calls, and take initial death reports over the phone;
  • Respond to death scenes with Deputy Coroners; examine deceased at the scene, document the scene, take appropriate digital photographs and secure personal belongings/evidence;
  • Obtain medical records and summarize for the written report or verbal to the pathologist. Request and secure all related reports (Police, Fire, Motor Vehicle Crash, EMS, Hospital, Pharmacy, etc.);
  • Deliver or pick-up specimens to/from affiliated laboratories;
  • Must be computer literate, enter cases into system and download photographs, etc.;
  • Arrange for transport of body, by Transporter or Deputy Coroner;
  • Collate file with appropriate forms and documents;
  • Follow-up with cases, ensure their completeness;
  • Issue and investigate cremation requests;
  • Intake and release of decedents to/from MCCO;
  • Assist with inventory, intake, and release of property and evidence;
  • Work with Genealogy Analyst to help locate NOK for unclaimed remains;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coroner or First Deputy Coroner.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must have Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Nursing, Forensic Science or other related field;
  • Past experience/education/training in Medicolegal Death Investigation will be considered advantageous;
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and be able to drive oversized vehicles;
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history background check;
  • Must submit to fingerprints and pass a drug screen.
