About the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT)

The mission of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is to move people and connect places with seamless, equitable transportation options that are safe, environmentally responsible, and support economic growth and vibrancy in Montgomery County. The Department has five divisions; these include Highway Services, Parking Management, Transit Services, Traffic Engineering and Operations, and Transportation Engineering. We are a large organization with over 1,200 employees and a dedicated County budget of 255 million.

About the Division of Transit Services:

The Division of Transit Services coordinates transit services in Montgomery County. Transit accomplishes an essential mobility mission of the County, connecting people, communities, workplaces, educational institutions, recreational opportunities, and many other essential destinations. The Division plans, schedules and manages the County's Ride On bus system consisting of County owned and operated buses. The Ride On system is designed to complement the service provided by the other transit providers in the County and provides almost 30 million trips per year. The Division also regulates the operation of taxicabs services in the County.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

MC DOT seeks to fill the Accountant/Auditor Iposition in the Division of Transit Services, Medicaid Transportation Unit.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the financial resource and provide detailed accounting and audit work for the Medicaid and Senior Transportation Section and is the primary contact for all transportation vendors’ accounting staff.
  • Receive, verify, reconcile, audit and process invoices submitted by vendors for accuracy and payments.
  • Examine, process, and maintain accounts and accounting data.
  • Maintain statistical files for all vendors.
  • Track expenditures and generate reports as needed.
  • Conduct periodic analysis of expenditure/revenue and make projections.

WHO WE ARE SEEKING:

  • Experience using computer programs to analyze revenue and expenses, make projections, and evaluate accounting problems of moderate difficulty, and analyze and interpret less complex accounting records and reports.
  • Knowledge in data validation from vendors and other financial systems to reconcile financial reports and build queries from the County’s reporting system to extract data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and departmental staff and management.
  • Strong communication skills both orally and in writing to a variety of individuals from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds.
  • Proficient in tracking, proofing, and reconciling invoices.
  • Ability to carry out tasks independently, determine the sequence of work, and obtain necessary data to accomplish work within the form of laws, regulations, and accepted accounting procedures.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

This position is designated as Essential.The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee.Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with Federal, State, and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe.

The anticipated salary range in hiring for this position is: $56,220 - $72,453.

Minimum Qualifications


Experience:
One (1) year of experience performing professional accounting work.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting; or a bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field with a major of accounting coursework.

Equivalency: Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be substituted or a degree in Accounting or a major in Accounting.


Preferred Criteria


There are NO Preferred Criteria Assessments
. All applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified," placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for an interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are the same grade or higher will be placed on the Eligible List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for an interview.

  • Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices
  • Experience reviewing, auditing, and reconciling invoices from transportation service vendors for correctness and readiness for payments and billing issues.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Access)
  • Customer service experience in public transportation assistance programs.
