Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that the Deputy Sheriff classification exists is to perform general duty police work in the protection of life and property through crime prevention and the enforcement of laws and ordinances.� A Deputy Sheriff’s duties range from periods of physical inactivity to situations requiring extreme physical exertion and may involve an element of danger. Employees must be able to act without immediate supervision and exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies. Specific work assignments are made by a Deputy Sheriff Sergeant or other supervisor and performance is checked through personal inspections, and review of oral and written reports.� Deputies are usually appointed to patrol upon entry to the job.� After gaining experience, Deputies may be assigned to patrol, K-9, SOP, civil service, warrant service, probate, court security, etc.� Work responsibilities for Deputy Sheriffs are based upon assignment which may include all or some of the following: learning to perform duties, performing station desk duties, interviewing witnesses, serving warrants, completing documentation, maintaining equipment, preparing for and testifying in court, performing outreach and public relations duties, engaging in self-development and training, patrolling, securing crime scenes, handling evidence, investigating crimes, conducting covert investigations, maintaining security of courts, serving civil papers, and transporting suspects/criminals.

Minimum Qualifications

For Deputy Sheriff, a high school diploma or G. E. D. certificate and must be a certified law enforcement officer.NOTE:�Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Kind of Examination

Applicants will be pre-screened using the application and an applicant's responses to a qualification/willingness questionnaire.Individuals who meet the pre-screening criteria will be referred to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO). MCSO will contact individuals to begin the next phase of the process.Complete an online application by visiting Montgomery City-County Personnel's Online Employment Center. Paper applications are no longer accepted. Completed applications will be accepted online until 11:59 p.m. on the closing date. If there is no closing date, the announcement may be closed at any time without prior notice.
