The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics have initiated a national search to identify candidates to serve as the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine to support all clinical, educational, scholarly, and administrative activities of the division. Successful candidates for this position must demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse group, work with the hospital and academic department partners using a collaborative approach, mentor junior faculty and have business skills, including financial budgeting and resource management. Other qualities include a commitment to excellence in patient care, implementation of innovative patient care programs, and experience with strategic program growth.
The clinical services of the division are primarily conducted in the 26-bed Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at CHAM. The Division Chief, 18 full-time faculty members and a multidisciplinary team that includes critical care nurses, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, nutritionists, social workers, child life specialists, and pharmacists provide 24/7 in house coverage for the CHAM PCCU, as well as participate in the pediatric transport program and the sedation service. The PCCU is one of the largest in the region and serves our busy Pediatric Emergency Department and a full complement of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialty services. The PCCU is a referral unit for hospitals in the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester, and the Hudson Valley. The unit offers highly specialized services such as mechanical cardiac support, including Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS), Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP), complex modes of mechanical ventilation, solid organ transplantations (heart, liver, kidney) and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). More than 1,200 patients from all over the world come to CHAM's PCCU for care each year.
The PCCU also houses a section for Cardiovascular Intensive Care (CVICU), which delivers highly specialized services to patients with complex congenital heart diseases after open-heart surgery or admitted with a critical illness that compromises their cardiac physiology. Our CVICU also provides care to patients' life-threatening arrhythmias undergoing complex ablations.
