The Yardman will be engaged in loading, unloading, storing, transferring, and distributing materials such stock tanks, cisterns, and well pit covers. The Yardman/operator will be responsible for loading and unloading trucks, yard organization, and being a positive representation of the company while interacting with customers.

Wage starting at $17.00 per hour or higher DOE

Department: Operations / Reports to Plant Manager

Loading and unloading trucks. Moving products from production to inventory.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for quality control. No damaged product is to be sent out. No damaged raw material is to be accepted in.
• Follow all company policies and procedures
• Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, training, rules and guidelines.
• Use good judgment and common sense
• Other duties as assigned;
• Work with office or plant manager to keep up with the flow of the day, to keep the loads pulled and ready to be put on the trucks as they come back for their next runs.
• Maintain control over and help walk-in or pick-up customers.
• Load and unload trucks, storing materials correctly.
• Ability to recognize customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction with materials being loaded.
• Be able to perform general organization and housekeeping/landscaping of the yard.
• Be able to use power tools safely.
• Ability to communicate effectively to other store personnel, managers, and customers.
• Ability to follow procedures and make them more efficient
• Work well independently and in a team environment

Requirements:

Job specifications of a yard worker

• Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb in and out of equipment and on and off trailers safely, as well as be able to push/pull to adjust items on trailer.
• Organized and punctual Ability to read and use measuring materials
• Strong time-management skills
• Ability to adapt and be flexible with changes
• Have an understanding of basic math
• Ability to pass a drug test
• Valid Driver’s License
• Forklift experience, forklift certified will take preference
• Able to lift up to 50lbs frequently, in a consistently safe manner
• Other reasonable directives, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Machines/Tools/Equipment:

Forklifts/skid-steers, pallet jacks, small power tools (drills, etc.) Chains/lifting apparatus, bridge crane.

Working Conditions:

Shop and yard environment, involving walking on uneven surfaces, bending, standing, climbing (on trailer), exposure to very hot or very cold weather.

Key Responsibilities:
General

Inventory

• Verifies that incoming materials are inspected, checked for damage, and counted for accuracy.
• Count and check the quality, quantity, and condition of all incoming and outgoing products.
• Ensure incoming and outgoing deliveries are consistent with packing lists in quantity and quality prior to accepting delivery or unloading products off trucks or prior to loading trucks to go out for delivery.
• Report shortages and material issues to office or plant manager

Safety and Efficiency:

• Maintain and keep the yard safe for customers and employees by following guidelines to make sure forklifts/trucks are maintained and make use of all provided safety equipment.
• Responsible for organized, safe and proper storage of all inventory.
• Responsible for the proper unloading of vendor trucks as well as the safe and orderly storage of products received.
• Comply with the safety and environmental programs, including DOT, OSHA, EPA and state and city ordinance requirements consistent with storage, handling, and transport of materials.
