PAINTER
In addition to conformance with the job description set forth for a painter, the following skills sets will be used to classify the Painter I. The following skill sets include but are not limited to:
Skill Sets:
Sprays Class B&C finishes (platforms, utilities, tippers) with protective coating materials such as single stage and base coat/clear coat paints, epoxies, or primer by performing the following duties:
- Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color
- Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose
- Covers cab and applies masking tape over parts that are not to be painted
- Determines flow rate (cc per minute) and viscosity of paints by use of viscometer
- Determines quality of coating visually or by use of viscometer
- Ability to apply sufficient number of coats for proper mill thicknesses
- Has a complete understanding of paint systems
- Mixing paint
- Paint gun set up (pressure feed)
- Checks body for proper prep before painting
- Wipes down body with wax and grease remover
- Follows proper paint procedures as outlined by paint manufacturer
- Ability to operate colorimeter – sprays out test panels for complex color matches
- Must have a complete understanding of paint booth operation and have the ability to troubleshoot problems
- Properly and safely sets up and operates paint spray equipment
- Maintains a clean and safe paint booth
- Removes overspray from walls and windows, replaces lighting, and filter media.
- Uses required respirators, HVLP gun and pressurized paint pot
- Blending paint for repairs
- Ability to buff without haze
