Position Title: Special Education Teacher – Resource Room

Resource Room:

This program provides remedial academic assistance for all students. All students have identified disabilities that require specially designed instruction in order to assist the student in being successful. The specially designed instruction may be delivered in resource room or in the general education classrooms. In addition to direct teaching responsibilities, the resource teacher develops and supervises the specially designed instruction and is responsible for scheduling and direction paraeducators in the performance of their duties.

The Monroe School District is seeking special education teachers who are dedicated to helping all students achieve success. Individuals who wish to become a part of the Monroe School District must be dedicated to:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must possess a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement in special education.
  2. Successful and recent experience teaching special education students in the school setting preferred.
  3. Desire to work with special education students ranging from those who are medically fragile, and in a self-contained setting to students primarily in general education settings with special education support.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  5. Ability to work with minimum direction, but as an effective member of the
  6. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and IEP compliance paperwork
  7. Demonstrate positive interactions with special education students, their families and other team members
  8. Demonstrate interest, commitment and ability to work with students ages 3-21 who have varied special education needs and help them succeed both academically and socially.
  9. Such other qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate
  10. Demonstrate ability to honor confidentiality and appropriately apply the requirement of the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA)
  11. Must meet the definition of highly qualified in the core area of teaching

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

This position is represented by the MEA collective bargaining unit. The position will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar under the direction of the school administrator. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

Performance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
