Job Summary

With a patient-centered culture, the Clinical Assistant will provide a positive experience to the communities we serve through direct and indirect total nursing care of the patient. The OB Clinical Assistant will assist medical professionals with patient management, record keeping, notarization, birth certificate completion, paternity applications, and perform scheduling, billing, and clerical tasks in addition to delegated patient care assignments.

Responsibilities

Customer Focus Creating a positive experience by welcoming and assisting the Family Birth Center families from admission through discharge. Completing patient registration of both mom and newborn upon admission, while collecting vital information of patient identification for billing purposes. Identifies customer needs and expectations and responds to them in a timely and effective manner. Job Skills Possess sufficient job skills and knowledge to perform the job in a competent manner and be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge in day-to-day situations. The OB CA provides total care within their scope of practice while completing vital signs and activities of daily living. Performs assigned tasks such as glucose monitoring, urine testing, maintenance of quality control testing and logs according to unit policy. Other duties include obtaining and recording mother and newborn intake, output, and daily weights, answering of telephone calls, call bells, preparation of rooms and patient room turnover, ordering office supplies and equipment for patient care needs, and completion of newborn hearing screening. This individual must report all necessary equipment repairs and assist in cleaning the operating room and assist with setting up delivery rooms while maintaining aseptic technique. Upon discharge of mother and baby, the OB CA transports all discharged patients and reviews proper placement of the infant car seat. Planning Develops the steps necessary to accomplish goals and establishes realistic plans to reach them. These steps include allocating required resources, planning for contingencies, and setting milestones to measure progress. Safety Understands every safety practice expected by Mon Health. Engages in practices that decrease the risk of accidents, injuries or equipment failures. The OB CA will assist in direct patient care by maintaining a safe environment (i.e. Infant security system and camera monitoring), and providing optimal safety for patients, visitors, and employees.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Heavy WorkExerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly. Demonstrated proficiency with administering a variety of routine patient care procedures acquired through on-the-job training. Computer literacy and familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
