Summary

Job Summary:

The Community Health Education Program Specialist Sr. (CHEPS Sr.) is a senior professional who applies advanced knowledge of community cancer prevention and awareness education. The CHEPS Sr. prospects and builds a network of senior internal and external contacts and resources for the purpose of planning, designing, developing, implementing, and assessing educational programs for community members, partner agencies, professional community audiences and other health providers. The program services will focus efforts in the defined target areas and specifically selected community sites.

The CHEPS Sr. designs and builds cancer awareness and preventive health education services in the community and act as the lead program specialist in a growth and capacity building role.

The CHEPS Sr. will receive little instruction on day-to-day work and general instructions on new projects or assignments as they are considered the Subject Matter Expert in program development.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Applicant must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and problem solving skills necessary for challenges that are diverse in scope.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with members of the community, community partners and Moffitt team members in a professional and courteous manner to build capacity and place emphasis on prevention and health promotion and research.
  • Demonstrated competency in educational program development and evaluation that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Demonstrated competency in grant or proposal writing and report writing.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills necessary for challenges that are diverse in scope.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and oversees partnerships with researchers, partners and community to address various needs, create and disseminate culturally tailored cancer information and programming to improve community health and change health behaviors, e.g. seeking cancer-screening services.
  • Leads partnership with the community and COEE to identify, develop, and disseminate health promotion/cancer education materials, important messages, etc. with the goal of increasing awareness and adoption of NCI and CDC recommendations on cancer prevention, early detection and screening, and treatments.
  • Proactively prospects relationships and new partnerships in the community in order to increase Moffitt’s presence in the community, build a network, and expand reach of the program and materials.
  • Ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative and relevant cancer education programs for community audiences are diverse in scope as assigned.
  • Oversees the delivery of educational classes in the community.
  • Evaluates impact of education program and strategies on the community and patient audiences.
  • Develops patient/family education programs, activities and materials/media utilizing various cross departmental resources within Moffitt and external to Moffitt. Educational materials and other media and communication messages will be developed in a variety of venues, e.g. group and individual teaching modules, displays, virtual, radio or television messages, etc.
  • Establishes new processes and enhances existing processes for ongoing monitoring of community/patient/family education activities and seeks to strive for ongoing improvement. Including collecting, compiling, synthesizing, analyzing and creating participant written and oral feedback.
  • Participates and Proactively Contributes to Education and Research Initiatives.
  • Participates in the opportunities for outside funding and sponsorship of community outreach endeavors, and assists in grant writing and reporting to increase funding and support of programs as needed.
  • Mentors other outreach and education professionals with regards to best practices in outreach and program development.

Credentials and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Nursing, Anthropology or other social science required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification required. Preferred Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) certification.
  • FL State Active Driver’s License required. Applicant must have reliable transportation in order to drive to locations as needed/assigned.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant teaching/education, community outreach experience required, preferably in cancer education.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in public speaking, public relations, program planning, program development, evaluation and working with diverse groups required.
  • Experience with implementation and evaluation of evidence based interventions necessary.
  • 5 plus years experience with developing new community partnerships, and fostering relationships with providers preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language abilities in oral and written form preferred.
