Moehl Millwork is seeking a skilled and experienced Paint Shop Manager to work in and oversee our paint department, ensuring the production of top-notch finishes for our millwork products. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on working manager with a strong background in paint application techniques, management skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

Hands-On Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of skilled painters and finishers.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to ensure the team meets production goals and quality standards while adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

Production Planning:

  • Collaborate with production planning teams to schedule and prioritize paint shop activities.
  • Ensure timely completion of paint jobs to meet overall production timelines.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control processes to ensure consistent and high-quality finishes.
  • Conduct regular inspections of painted products to identify and address any defects or imperfections.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously evaluate and improve paint application processes for efficiency and quality.
  • Implement best practices and stay updated on industry advancements.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of painting equipment.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to address any equipment issues promptly.

Safety Compliance:

  • Enforce safety protocols and standards in the paint shop to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions for the paint shop team.

Inventory Management:

  • Manage paint and finishing supplies inventory.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure an adequate and cost-effective supply of materials.

Budget Management:

  • Work within allocated budgets for the paint department.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with other department managers and leadership.
  • Provide regular updates on paint shop performance and challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a managerial role within a paint shop or similar manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of paint application techniques and finishes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

A LITTLE HISTORY The origin of Moehl Millwork goes back to 1897 when Bill Carr of Dubuque and Ernie Moehl Of Des Moines started Carr & Moehl Co. on S.W. 9th in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1964, Bob Moehl and five fellow employees left Carr & Moehl and started Moehl Millwork. Following the death of Bob Moehl in 1975 employees managed the organization until 1987. As part of Moehl Millworks growth, the company acquired Kansas City Millwork in 1991. Don Rudd purchased the company on September 30, 2000. On December 1st, 2017 Don Rudd sold Moehl Millwork and Kansas City Millwork to Building Material Distributors, Inc. (BMD). Established in 1943, BMD is a distributor and manufacturer of specialty building products and millwork. Moehl is now part of the BMD family of companies and is proud to now be 100% employee-owned.
