Job Description

Job Description

Start Date: ASAP, Flexible (targeted start date in May 2024)

Role Type: Full-Time

Pay: Salaried, $120,000 - $135,000

Background: Bachelor’s degree, Teaching, Public Education

Location: Remote home-based position located in the Midwest (Chicago or Minneapolis preferred). Travel up to 60% within the region is required.

Who We Are:

The Modern Classrooms Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers educators to build classrooms that respond to every student’s needs. Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.

To date, we have reached over 65,000 teachers through our free online course and 7,000 teachers through our Virtual Mentorship Program from over 200 school, district, and state partners. We are an ambitious, idealistic team led by former classroom teachers, and we are passionate about what we do.

Job Description:

The Partnerships Director will lead the implementation of the Modern Classrooms Project’s work across their designated portfolio while growing our partnerships and managing a team to collaboratively implement those programs. The Director will be responsible for establishing and nurturing relationships with school, school system, state, and philanthropic partners throughout the program cycle. Ultimately, the Director is responsible for the quality of our partner relationships, leading to teachers having access to our training and more students learning in responsive, personalized classrooms. This position requires a high level of organization and exceptional interpersonal communication skills. As a growth-stage organization, the Director can expect to be part of our next phase of growth which will require flexibility and a focus on learning and relationships.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Partnerships Director will report directly to the Vice President of Partnerships and will work on three key areas:

Relationship and Account Management - The Director and their team are the points of contact for all partners in their portfolio as their educators learn our model and implement it in their communities. Partners include schools, school systems, state level relationships, and philanthropic relationships. Supporting and engaging these partners includes:

  • Building strong and lasting relationships with partners and maintain an influential network of potential partners. Note that this will require travel to be on-site with partners.
  • Understanding our partners deeply, including how they work and where there are opportunities to build alignment with their priorities.
  • Telling the story of the Modern Classrooms Project work in a compelling way to current and prospective partners.
  • Providing outstanding and scalable communication to partners, including telling the story of our impact in partner systems.
  • Leading strategy and knowledge-building work with school, district, system, and state leaders to deepen their understanding of the model and capacity to support educators.
  • Coordinating with the Modern Classroom team to ensure seamless execution of contracts and delivery of philanthropic commitments.
  • Executing teacher recruitment plans for partners to generate teacher demand for services and enroll educators in training.
  • Collecting and sharing qualitative and quantitative data from partners to the Modern Classroom team to improve processes and partner support.

Business Development and Expansion - The Director works to scale our work by deepening and expanding relationships in communities across their portfolio. This includes:

  • Telling the story of our partners and proposing scopes of work that best meet their needs, drive impact, and generate earned revenue through contract renewal.
  • Managing the contract renewal process from the proposal of a scope of work through contract closing.
  • Maintaining a renewal pipeline aligned to revenue targets and progress toward goals.
  • Leveraging relationships to expand to new prospective partners.
  • Working with the partnership development team to take new school and district leads through close.

Team Leadership and Coordination - The Director will coordinate all partner deliverables by leading cross-functional teams of Modern Classrooms Project colleagues. This includes:

  • Strong attention to detail and organization to ensure all committed deliverables are scheduled with the partner and assigned to appropriate team members.
  • Leading internal team meetings to coordinate cross-functional support to each partner tailored to their needs and contexts.
  • Establishing and tracking goals for the work within each partner to distribute work across Modern Classrooms Project teams.
  • Coordinating closely with cross-functional team leaders in order to deliver continuous feedback on the impact of our work within each partnership and overall trends.
  • Deeply understanding relationships and work within a partner to open doors for each team member to conduct impactful work within the partnership.

Habits of Work Required for the Role:

  • Strong Follow-Through: You follow through on your commitments, and do so on the stated timelines. This is essential to building and maintaining trusting relationships with partners, who themselves are managing high volume and complex roles.
  • Curiosity and Interest in Partners: Every school and school system is unique. Modern Classrooms Project works best when the implementation approach is tailored to the unique context of the partner.
  • Attention to Detail in High Volume Work: From Salesforce entry to planning every minute of a site visit, attention to detail is required for every part of this role.
  • Coaching and Developing Others: This position will be responsible to deploy staff within your portfolio and requires strong skill in coaching and developing others.
  • Building Relationships with Partners: Building strong and lasting relationships with partners is at the heart of this role. Because our partners are conducting work in person, we believe we need to be in-person and on site frequently as well. So travel is a required part of building relationships.
  • Goal and Outcomes Driven: Supporting our partners well means tracking and maintaining data on the partnership and closely monitoring educator interest and contract expansions. You should be excited about data tracking and how your role contributes to the organization and success of their partners.

Must-Have Skills and Competencies:

  • Track record of strong communications skills with varied and diverse audiences through public speaking, presentations, writing, and in 1:1 settings.
  • Track record of managing a high volume of tasks while meeting deadlines, fulfilling work obligations, and making decisions grounded in data.
  • Ability to manage others toward results while investing in the development of team members along the way.
  • Eagerness to work in a start-up environment. This includes comfort with working independently, working remotely, and establishing the foundations for the future of partnerships while trying and testing new strategies along the way.
  • Excellent relationship building skills, including listening, problem-solving, and following through on commitments across a variety of diverse stakeholders.
  • Excitement to learn - as our team and systems grow, so will your skills. You should expect changes and iterations to the role as our partnerships develop and our team grows over time. You see this as an exciting opportunity.
  • Confidence with technology There are technical platforms (Salesforce and Asana) our team uses. While we do not require fluency in these platforms prior to joining, the Director will need to learn how to seamlessly integrate digital platforms into daily work. We use Google suite and screencasting frequently to share and collaborate on ideas.

We are Looking for Someone with:

  • Experience managing decision-maker relationships, preferably in education
  • Experience leading a school or leading within a school system
  • Established network with schools and school systems
  • A desire to be part of a dynamic team and an organization with ambitious goals for impact and scale
  • Passion for Modern Classrooms Project’s mission and making the world a better place
  • Comfort working remotely
  • Please note that travel is required

Compensation and Benefits

We aim to offer a competitive compensation package, as well as the opportunity to work in a fast-growing nonprofit that is on a mission to improve education worldwide. This includes:

  • Salaried position: $120,000 - $135,000 salary per year
  • Employer-sponsored health insurance through CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
  • Participation in Vanguard 403(b) deferred-compensation plan with 3% employer match

Ability to work remotely and to set own hours (within reason)
