JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the inventory control specialist position is to coordinate, organize, procure, and maintain the services and materials necessary to support the day-to-day maintenance operations and activities for the Mobile Airport Authority which owns and operates the Mobile Regional Airport, Mobile International Airport, St. Elmo Airport, and the Brookley Aeroplex. Position performs a variety of tasks related to supply, inventory, requisition, parts issuance/receipt, and field servicing.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Issues tools and parts to maintenance technicians as required. Maintains current inventory of all stocked parts and supplies to ensure minimum quantities are maintained. Creates and processes requisitions for the order and receipt of materials. Coordinates with maintenance and custodial supervisors to ensure minimum requirements for stocked inventory. Manages and monitors purchase order process and verifies quantities, price, serviceability of equipment/parts received. Communicates with vendors on pricing and procurement of materials. Enters parts and labor costs into work order system. Maintains spreadsheets for budgetary and contract compliance. Compiles all material safety data sheets and post these sheets for all personnel. Inspects returned items for serviceability. Processes requests for parts and materials, submitted by maintenance technicians. Responsible for general housekeeping of the work area. Performs other duties as assigned.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Forklifts, pallet jacks, man lifts and ladders are utilized in the daily operation of assigned tasks. Proper PPE equipment in the handling of regulated material such as combustible items. Operate a motor vehicle as needed. Personal office computers (Windows based) with MS Office software, copier/scanner, and standard office machines, 2-way radios, including aviation-band radios.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to the proper storage and handling of hazardous substances/chemicals. Ability to learn and apply knowledgeable about the maintenance and operation of a large facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance.
Ability to work independently and to organize and manage work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally, including business relationships required in the course of work. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing utilizing the English language. Must be able to accurately record and document information.
Must possess computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office software. Ability to enter and retrieve data from various sources.
Minimum Training and Experience
High school diploma/equivalent and the possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Alabama driver’s license before employment and be insurable is required. Ability to pass a background check is required.
Previous experience working in an inventory control/supply related position is preferred.
Environmental Requirements
Must be able to adapt to changing work environments; perform work under extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
Maintain physical condition appropriate to perform assigned duties which may include, walking, crouching, crawling, kneeling, climbing, moving, and operating tools and equipment, and lifting. Effective audio-visual perception needed for operating assigned equipment, reading and interpreting material data sheets and writing. Effectively deal with personal danger which may include working with irritant materials or working at heights in excess of 10 feet on ladders or lifting devices. Lifting of heavy objects of up to 50lbs.
